lovecatt Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I didn't know she retired from music so what does she do now?

She has her own perfume company and collabs with other musicians. 2 hours ago, Communion said: Sis should just be thankful for the coins she made along the way and go be a creative director or something. Being seen as a respected rapper isn't some entitlement. There's so many people in the industry that are nepotism acts and very talentless and to attempt to shave her away and say she should be lucky instead of calling out how unfair the public was to her is, well, not fair.

Not sure why it’s being posted again now. She isn’t bringing this up constantly, as implied.
Dula Peep Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 At least she was brave enough to just call it quits I admire that

This is the fist time. And if you actually listened to her music, you'd see that IOP is very inspired by Iggy. Cardi and her team were amazed by her pen game. There's been strong and convincing rumors that she actually co-wrote Savage by MTS. Edited May 15, 2022 by SmittenCake
Britney Jean Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Well, at least she ever had Britney Spears working with her. Not everyone has that in their resume
Communion Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 (edited) 42 minutes ago, Archetype said: Then she put out Fancy, commercial pop collabs and rap-pop music (not unlike other major female rappers, just look at Nicki at her peak and Doja now) Iggy only has 4 Top 20 hits in the US, with all 4 being collabs with female singers: #1 - Fancy with Charli XCX #3 - Problem with Ariana Grande #3 - Black Widow with Rita Ora #18 - Booty (Remix) with Jennifer Lopez Other Top 40 placements include Beg For It (with singer MØ) and Pretty Girls (with Britney Spears). For comparisons, most of Doja's hits are largely solo: #1 - Say So #2 - 34+35 Remix with Ariana Grande & Megan Thee Stallion #3 - Kiss Me More with SZA #7 - Woman #8 - Need To Know #11 - You Right with The Weekend #14 - Best Friend with Saweetie #16 - Streets #24 - Ain't **** Even Nicki's main string of original hits were all solo: Your Love, Right Thru Me, Super Bass, Starships etc. She obviously had a myriad of features, but her first Top 10 with a pop girl was Bang Bang in 2014. This isn't to discuss either or argue over them, but to illustrate that people you think are similar to Iggy established a success for themselves that Iggy never had. You can like Iggy, but this conspiracy that something has been unfairly taken from her or she's victim to blacklisting sounds like Republicans talking about "cancel culture!!!". Look at Jessie J - she went from having hits, largely thanks to a similar program by iHeartRadio, and overnight went to being irrelevant. Yet people don't theorize she was blacklisted - they just recognize fads come and go. Even after the repackage of her debut album flopped, she got to: - Collab with Britney Spears, and it struggled to have longevity. - Release follow-up singles that under-performed despite initial Top 40 support. - Collab with Anitta, and it flopped. - Collab with Quavo, and it flopped. - Collab with Tyga, and it peaked at #96 - Collab again with Tyga, and it flopped. I'm just curious what you think should have been done for her - put on playlists even if people don't stream her? Played by radio stations despite listeners not wanting to hear her? How many chances? Six? Seven? Her commercial trajectory was not because of ~cancel culture~ or some punishment for problematic behavior; she simply never developed an audience. She could never truly appeal to rap fans because she simply can't perform live well, so she appealed to pop fans, but never developed anything substantial. Again, it's a very simple question - who exists that you think has the career that you think Iggy instead deserves? Edited May 15, 2022 by Communion

Communion Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Just now, SmittenCake said: Cardi B Maybe Iggy shouldn't have been too stuck up to go on reality TV like Cardi chose to do to get a very different type of audience. It's ironic to mention Cardi since, for all of Cardi's shortcomings in terms of skill and ability, she took the same platform that led to Iggy being seen as a joke (Vine) and used it to become a internet celebrity.
abrahamjmr Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Her music has always been bad, what was she expecting? She might pen her verses, but they are mostly bad. Why would anyone want to work with her?
Sugar-Rush Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I legitimately don't know why people stopped checking for her. Even the Black culture appropriation accusations shouldn't have impacted her that much; Eminem managed to make a two decade long career out of that. Hell even Macklemore tried it and had more hits than Iggy did while doing the exact same thing. And now we've got Jack Harlow too. Is it just sexism?
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I wanted a Madonna collab for the rebel heart era and them doing a sexy video together. Not now tho.
TheBoss Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Isn't this interview from like a year ago? When her album came out? lol
SweetTalker Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 What’s up with all these old Iggy news ???? Just the other day we had one including Victoria Beckham

Again, it's a very simple question - who exists that you think has the career that you think Iggy instead deserves? I don't think she deserves anyone else's career. I literally said I find the way she was dropped by the industry as WEIRD, it had nothing to do with bad music. There are also many male and female artists who have said far worse things on Twitter and in music, and have done far worse things in real life, that are still successful and popular today. As for performance skills, two of the biggest and most successful female rappers of the past two decades, Nicki and Cardi, can barely finish a verse while moving and have been caught lipping on the regular. The fact that an artist had 6 top 40 hits and 3 top 3 hits within a few years is more than enough to say she was big, no matter how you spin it. It's also very rare for female rappers to score solo top 5 hits, and most female rap hits historically have a feature singing a pop hook, so I'm not sure why this is even worth bringing up. 6 hours ago, Communion said: I'm just curious what you think should have been done for her - put on playlists even if people don't stream her? Played by radio stations despite listeners not wanting to hear her? How many chances? Six? Seven? You say this as if TTH residency song Levitating didn't have how many remixes and music videos, how many playlist inclusions, how much radio payola, how many live performances, etc over the course of a whole ass year and and took months to gain traction. Yes, for one single, not several, but - o n e - single that was receiving bad callout scores when it was first sent to radio. This is the most recent blatant example of what you're describing that I can think of, but it's the story of the pop music industry over the past two decades. Once again, I'm not saying she was cancelled or anything, I simply think what has happened to her career is weird. Also, when I said blacklisted, this is more of an example of people deciding someone isn't "cool" anymore at the same time and not wanting to work with them anymore. All of the men that cosigned and supported her suddenly dropped her because they made their money and moved on to the next project *cough* TI *cough* instead of standing by her. To make things worse, she had Az**lia Banks coming for her on Twitter every waking minute of the day. Brand partnerships and sponsorships stopped or were not renewed, her label didn't want to invest in her sophomore album, she had to get a new team, etc. This normally only happens to an artist when an album bombs and they flop several times, not when they're still riding off the massive success of their first album, having cameos in movies, starring in Super Bowl commercials, being the face of major brands, etc. Her label didn't even want to release her second album and forced her to delay several years. It's a bad combination.
WiredBrain Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Love her but she is seen as a liability for other artists which is stupid
CroNich Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Iggy’s decline is just another example of sexism in the music industry. There a lot of (****) white male rappers who also built their careers on harmful black stereotypes that manage to have a decent career

Skirt Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 She’s a lovely gal but her music is awful so it’s understandable.
thatsmydemi Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I thought she was doing just fine for her standards right now. I get that artists don't want to collab with her because her status and image are the pits both in terms of commercial succes and credibility. Still, she hasn't been doing that bad. She got a platinum hit and a gold certification last year. If she managed to collab with a big female rapper, I'm sure we'd see her back in the game. Kream did surprisingly good and the material she's released since she started flopping is one of the most interesting out of any female rapper out there. She's got an interesting mind tbfh.
