You guys want to be upset over this. Get over it and plan your weekend. It’s Friday, guys.

You're not changing opinions here and I'll bet solid money there won't be any backlash to this for reasons I've already discussed (which I'm not defending or attacking).

For those that don't care I'd suggest not wasting energy on those that do and should move on first

The album's not been out long so the jury's out on any response by the wider public regardless of anyone's opinion here.

You are also on here on a Friday arguing with people about it.

I don’t think most members of oppressed communities want to be upset over the use of slurs, but that’s what makes a slur a slur - it’s upsetting. Did you know that? I can’t tell if you’re trolling or being intentionally obtuse. I told myself I wasn’t going to engage with people but it’s hard to not speak out as a gay man seeing people exercise so much ignorance.

I posted less than 4 posts in a 18+ page thread. And I’m in my office at work. My weekend is booked once I clock out. Looking forward to this album, though.

The fact that this has almost more pages than the album thread says everything.

Y'all don't really care about the music. Super weird

This is a straw man argument and a false equivalency. It’s never been okay for non-black people to say that word in any capacity. It’s always been okay to say ****** (or dyke, or ******) until very recently.

What?! Lmfao

just because the world didn’t listen when queer people were offended by it doesn’t mean “it’s always been okay to say f*ggot”

what is wrong with yall? Lmao

The music is mid. This is his weakest album tbh

This is storytelling, the same as when slurs are used in film or books in order to make a point, it's not an endorsement of those slurs. And honestly the entire song is pretty groundbreaking to come from such a high profile hip-hop artist and actually has the ability to make a positive impact.

My weekend is also booked. Don’t think I’ve exceeded more than 7 or 8 posts. I have the day off before plans in the evening, so I have some time to combat homophobia on the internet if I so please.

What a peculiar comment to make. :rip:

The album hasn't even been out for 24hrs. Your opinion is mid.

listening to this song and idk. it’s a little weird how he’s talking about transness :rip: every time he uses the f w0rd though, he immediately follows it up saying “we didn’t know no better.” like he’s clearly coming from an open minded and progressive place about it. i get what y’all are saying about straight ppl not using the word as a principle but meh

then the last couple lines of the song?? :deadbanana2: it’s messy all around lol

There is NO excuse for a straight person to say this world, regardless if its for 'storytelling'.

i haven’t listened the song and i don’t plan on listening it

I think that last line was his uncle telling him he can use the word if he allows a white woman to say the N word, pretty much dead'ing the argument about it.

Yeah I do think he could've gotten the point across without using the word but it's a non-issue. A lot of you guys want to compare being gay to being black/a person of color (as usual) and those two things will never be comparable considering there's us out here who are both.

Many of whom have already commented here and the opinion seems to be split 50/50 :coffee2:

I’m not going to engage with people who are defending a straight man using a gay slur, but I do want to just generally apologize to any gay people reading this who have to, on a forum comprised primarily of LGBTQ+ people, defend being offended by it. Y’all are being gaslit and it’s really sad. I honestly didn’t expect people would be grasping at straws to defend this pretending that “context” is ok.

We all know that other marginalized communities get extended far more empathy when people use slurs against them in any “context”, and despite the exact same logic, people want to gaslit LGBTQ+ people into thinking it’s “not the same.” It’s the exact same logic whether people want to admit it or not. It’s so disheartening to read people grasping at straws to defend this, as well as people having to defend why they’re offended by the use of a slur used seven times.  :rip:

This.

Some of yall need to learn to love yourselves better.

Anyone here who is Queer and Black/a person of color will NEVER tell you that you can compare the two. Not saying Kendrick is allowed to use a slur cause I personally don't think Non-queer people should be able to use the word, but context is different. Racial slurs vs homophobic slurs cannot be compared.

I'm black, am I being racist to him by not seeing why he felt the need to do it?

We're talking past each other. Not comparing the two, whether f----- can be used at all.

Hip-hop use of n----- was already unpacked here for pages so I'm not going to revisit that.

Nah, seeing your hypocrisy during the same week about the same topic was just too remarkable for me to ignore without any mention of it.

I was never steam-pressed enough to try to bring the matter to personal levels due to lack of argument but you can call it what you want.

1) There was no personal attack.

2) There was no hypocrisy.

Again, it’s been a week…

Just like a racist Camila thread about something she said 10 years ago as a kid gets more pages/attention than her music here :rip:  Stop acting like people have to listen to his music to be offended at what he said. The dumbest take I’ve seen.

21 pages for a line that was included to speak to the realities of true life.. embarrassing. Confirms for me this has always been a forum for popular culture & not art/music bc this isn’t **** to clutch your pearls over
