As fun as that sounds, I feel like "Nothing" has kinda been my theme all season. But maybe that means my "Nothing" song would really be an "All" song?

Perhaps the hardcore ******* results in an unwanted pregnancy, but she reluctantly keeps the child and ends up loving it, only to tragically lose it a few years later.

In all seriousness though, the "All" option doesn't have to heavily borrow from your prior works. As long as there's some kind of link/nod to it in some aspect (lyrical, stylistically, thematically, conceptually, structurally... literally anything within reason [saying "both songs contain the word 'the' in them" wouldn't be enough, for example]) you can really get as creative as you like with either challenge tbh.

Just to clarify things a bit. How unrelated to our past entries does a Nothing song have to be?

 

Like if two of my past submissions are written from a female perspective and two others are from an explicitly queer perspective, does that mean I can’t write from a female or queer perspective?

 

If two of my songs were personal, does that mean I shouldn’t write something personal now?

 

If my songs mostly follow a VCVCBC structure, does that mean I can’t do that? Can I have an outro if three of my past entries did?

If you’re thinking of picking Nothing, I wouldn’t go for any of these themes. Structure is irrelevant though, the challenge is more about embracing different concepts, styles or topics, and you can achieve that while still using a similar structure. But I suppose the more you want to experiment, the better. I would also say that “personal” overall is very general, you can write two personal songs and they could be completely different; it’s more specifically about the actual themes of the song.
 

If you were hoping to incorporate any of the themes that you have already used, such as a female pov, queer life, small towns or the end of the world, then I would pick the All prompt instead. Like Aurora has said the references to the past entries don’t have to be strict, eg. you wouldn’t have to specifically write a queer female end of the world small town song, it can simply be a call back in a line.
