Control came after her debut, Like A Virgin and True Blue. Beyoncé also and said that herself. The others I agree. I never knew female artists weren't allowed to release music before Madonna existed, you truly do learn something new every day. 2 1
Gui Blackout Posted September 26 Posted September 26 The point is not just about being directly influenced by Madonna musically or artistically, but more so on her impact as a female artist in the music industry and culture as a whole. Even if an artist makes completely different music than her and doesn't reference her in any way, they're standing in the shoulders of Madonna in way (as well as other legends, of course). 1 4
mike_int Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) Why should anyone care what does she thinks? Why are people giving her voice? Edited September 26 by mike_int 1
king_queen Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I agree ppl don't talk about Diana Ross, Grace Jones, Donna Summer, Betty Davis and Tina Turner nearly enough and they created art that was just as, if not more daring than Madonna at times. Madonna was not the first female singer to sing explicitly about sex by a long shot. But I also see what Katy meant too bc not only did Madonna have a huge influence on how female artists express themselves, she also created a mold where the vocal talent doesn't have to necessarily be apparent to be a huge star and artists like Katy definitely benefitted from that 1 2 1 1
tiagol88 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) I don't think anyone cares what Azealia thinks. Also...why would women that had a career before Madonna be thankful to her? They weren't doing the thing Madonna was back in the 80's anyway edit: Also...why are we not paying attention to katy's quote? "I'm 40, I still get to do music because of Madonna" is quite important. She's literally talking about ageing in the industry. Madonna was having hit after hit well into her 40's like no one else in the industry INCLUDING all the women Azealia mentioned. Madonna created the playbook for the older popstar to still be relevant. She released Ray of Light the same year she turned 40, she had a major hit at 42, even American Life had top 10 hits when Madonna was 45, COADF had a major #1 hit when Madonna was 47, Sorry was a #1 hit in most places except America, and 4 Minutes / Hard Candy were #1 hits when Madonna was about to turn 50. Even MDNA and its first single were #1 / top 10 back when Madonna was 54. Celebration (the song) was also a top 10 hit all over the world except the USA when Madonna was 51. I don't remember those women Azealia mention doing this? Edited September 26 by tiagol88 6
LegaMyth Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Black women were expressing sexuality and getting banned on the radio long before Madonna. Madonna's impact was more on music videos and using cinematic influences to create her videos. Janet's Control and Rhythm Nation albums have NOTHING to do with Madonna's impact. That's Prince and Michael. 1 1
ontherocks Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Why don't you guys finally learn to post in the megathread?
Shinning Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) There are some Madonna influences in Beyoncé's work especially when it comes to marketing and the business side of things but she is in no way shape or form one of her biggest influences. That would be Tina Diana and Whitney (and MJ of course). Edited September 26 by Shinning 4
Elusive Chanteuse Posted September 26 Posted September 26 They always list these female artists when it comes to Madonna getting her credit. No one on twitter is listening to grace jones in their free time. It's all to spite Madonna. lol
Saintlor Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Just because Katy said Madonna should be credited, it doesn't mean she thinks other artists don't deserve credit too 2
MistressKay Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Clearly no one that came before her. She is a dingbat.

SupremeGoddess Posted September 26 Posted September 26 of course not all women lol but imma have to disagree with miss jackson if you're nasty, know i'm a big janitor stan myself but that ***** was SHADY towards madonna for being sexual and called her classless only to release a sexual album with a song with her singing nothing but moaning for 4 minutes (greatest song of all time btw) right after madonna made it easier for women to be that sexual so let's not 1
Pheromosa Posted September 26 Posted September 26 It's true. Most of our modern girls sure, but i think its not in great taste to say ALL of them should
Blue Monday Posted September 26 Posted September 26 This lady is a glorified sh*tposter atp I don't understand why there are people who hang on her every word

Azealia name dropped women who came before Madonna to change the narrative and get attention. Azealia has praised Madonna in her music, quoted her, even called herself the Black Madonna. She's mentioned Madonna B-sides, called her the queen of reinvention—though Janet might always be her top fave, she's definitely into Madonna too. 1
Sweetness Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Even Azealia referred to herself as the black Madonna and said she loves American Life, I also remember her referring to Madonna as QOP when she was going at it with Lady Gaga.

Even Grace Jones, Tina Tuner and Donna Summer who were out before her has given her credit. Edited September 26 by Sweetness 1
Bookmark99 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Then why is Azaelia claiming she only knows two Madonna songs and was never into her? Lol this chick is crazy...

YourHonesty Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Some of y'all still don't understand Madonna's impact and it shows. It has little do with the music's subject matter and more to do with how female artists are packaged and the expectations we have of them as a whole. I mean, the Blond Ambition Tour alone.
Chris Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Clearly Katy is taking about the women that came after Madonna. But of course I wouldn't expect people to use their brain properly.
