Did the Britney/XTina narrative change?

Who cares about public perception and narratives? You can like whoever you want. Both women were successful once.

No.

The narrative hasn’t changed.

Aguilera is still seen as the talented, respected artist to some, or annoying, self-absorbed and greater-than-what she-thinks-she-is artist to others.

Spears is still seen as the talentless, hyper-manufactured, Barbie Doll to others with no control over her life and once beat a car with an umbrella to some, or iconic and legendary to others.

Both women debuted in the same year, 23 years ago, and are still relevant today, even if they’re no longer commercially viable.

I don’t know who and what you’re trying to convince by making these threads on a Pop forum, filled with mostly Gay men, about a non-existent narrative that 98% of people on earth don’t give a f*ck about.

NEXT.

Maybe we should stop putting these two against each other for once.

I believe we should ALL agree that Christina is more talented but that same way we should ALL agree everybody just likes Britney better

She’s a more talented singer. But yes, people have always preferred Britney because she delivered better music, visuals, performances and her personality is just more likeable to most. Britney is also finally starting to gain respect from the GP due to her highly publicized conservatorship battle. I think everything she does from here on out will be received differently, whether that be a book, a new residency, new music ect. GP is on her side again.

Don't confuse sympathy with respect. I don't think the c-ship battle has changed in any way the way most people see Britney as an artist. And if she comes back, and she's still lip-syncing to her studio tracks, she'll eventually run out of goodwill and get a lot of backlash again. She does have an opportunity to turn things around, but it still a big question mark if she'll take advantage of it.

Britney is still the most popular between both. In reality xtina is already forgotten.

if Britney tours tomorrow it would be huge. She is a legend

It’s not just sympathy, and if it is then it’s translating to how people are viewing her catalog either way as it’s seen a spike and 20 year old + songs and music videos are being remixed and being recreated in movies.

I don’t even think Britney will do another residency or even release new music any time soon tbh. But if she did most people don’t go to a Britney concert to see her belt out her songs, they go to see a good show. That’s where she needs to deliver. Britney has also said that she doesn’t like performing to studio versions of her songs either.
