Madonna’s ‘Music’ sounds like MONEY

There’s always this discourse about how Ray of Light came out in the midst of Madonna greatly improving her vocals post Evita and offered her best chops to date. That might well be the case but listening to Music, I don’t think any other M album comes close to it in terms of vocal production and mixing as Music does. Like the budget was there and they weren’t afraid to use it. The tone, the mixing and the clarity of the vocals on Runaway Lover and What It Feels Like for a Girl are a career highlight :smitten:

I need this Madonna classic (the song at least) to have a viral moment. Lowkey one of her best bops, but I randomly forget about it because her other eras/albums/singles always end up getting more attention. The video is so fantastically bizarre and wild too. Like a full-on acid trip

I always have a hard time ranking the album for the same reasons. Like I enjoy everything on it, but it's not often the first that comes to mind when I'm thinking of my favorite Madonna albums :celestial5:

Such a good album. The lyrical content can get a bit dicey, but the production is immaculate.

I'd rank her best albums: 1. Bedtime Stories 2. Like a Prayer 3. Ray of Light 4. Music

It was the perfect follow-up to Ray of Light.

The song is iconic imo

Pretty sure it was the first one I heard as a kid (that I remember anyway).

It's a bop tbh.

Lowkey agree. Also the world needed a reminder of how Y2K separated everyone and Music was the perfect ingredient.

The album though...? That's another story :deadbanana2:

The album has her best song ever, Don't Tell Me.

Oh, I'd never **** on Don't Tell Me. That was a bop too.

I Deserve It, Nobody's Perfect and Paradise on the other hand....

The main crime committed though is that Europe only got American Pie in their release :dies:

These are the duds on here but they all have sections that I totally vibe with when I find myself halfway through them. Production wise they still slap

The first time she got in love with vocal treatment.

Sad she got addicted to that on the follow up albums :gaycat6:

The first two are very bland, but I do like Paradise's production, so I'll give it that.

anyone else find it ironic to see someone comment on production budget? for a MADONNA album, no less

Just because you have the most expensive production doesn't always mean it's good.

This album is absolutely amazing. More than Ray of Light, in my ears at least. Just mind-blowingly good.

I agree :clap3:

I still can't believe the song hit #1 because it sounded so fresh for a time when bubblegum pop was reigning on the charts.

Swap Like a Prayer for Erotica and this is the absolute tea

ot: yeh it’s great. Often overlooked but it’s a great album. The title track is timeless and the production is second to none. A dance song has never sounded so sharp and fresh

It also had the biggest weekly points for ANY song of that year :deadbanana4: 1998-2001 was a great period for M

Whew. I'm really glad she stayed true to her artistic period and didn't sell out until Hard Candy because Ray of Light/Music/American Life is my fave period of music from her.

Amazing album, and the song is just immaculate. The production :jonny4:

A contract is a contract and a budget is a budget regardless of status. Michael had to pay countless of videos out of his pocket to get his vision across.

My point exactly, if they were being stingy with Madonna coming off of ROL, she certainly had the money to make up for it

I think this is my fav Madonna album at the end of the day. It’s kind of perfect pop music.
