Solaria Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 I feel like a lot of people on here and outside ATRL like to downplay her achievements and place on the pop music scene. Let’s not forget Katy smashed for three consecutive eras, and Teenage Dream is cited by a lot of artists as the ‘perfect pop album’. Would you consider miss Hudson an icon or not?
Kill Me Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 No she's a huge fad. And quick lil fads are not icons. Noone calls Paula an icon.
Mr. Stratus Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Just now, Miss Americana said: No she's a huge fad. And quick lil fads are not icons. Noone calls Paula an icon. ^ shes a reality tv judge except with savy label who is constantly trying to keep her streams going (so she at least has that) the social media is also all contrived. She was just 10’s singles fad lol
Planet Mars Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Most definitely, she's a perfect representation of what pop music was in the early 2010's. The Dr. Luke, Max Martin era of light dance-pop music that dominated radios at the time. Much like Flo-Rida, Pitbull or Kesha, it's hard to think of that time in pop music without thinking of Katy.
RihFenty20 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 She’s just a fad of the late 00s/Early 10s She’s like those boybands of the late 90s or like Cyndi Lauper in the 80s.
PopKills Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Obviously, anyone outside of bitter Little Monsters on ATRL would agree. Her music is remembered and beloved among generations and her videos and visuals just as much. She will forever be remembered as one of the defining icons of the 2010s.
Planet Mars Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 5 minutes ago, Miss Americana said: No she's a huge fad. And quick lil fads are not icons. Noone calls Paula an icon. Paula Abdul is most definitely an icon. She was part of the wave of female dance artists that struck gold in the late 1980's. Think Jody Watley, Karyn White and Taylor Dayne (all of whom she was more successful than). She was selling as many records in the US as Janet, Madonna and Whitney at one point, though her career fizzled out earlier. She's icon status most definitely.
Aribiotch Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Yep! No one can deny her impact and the things she has done. We are just witnessing the latter of her career so it’s easy to say no.
JennyWayne Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 She's definitely an icon for the music and image of the early 2010s.
suburbannature Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Idk, she represents a moment in time in pop culture. Yes, she has some big stats but no staying power, true musical influence, or strong artistry to really put her in the pantheon of music.
Joyride Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 you guys are so biased of course she is an icon. she represents a huge era of Pure pop music where she not only dominated, but excelled. let's not forget she was a touring force during the Prismatic World Tour too.
Ratviolo Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Absolutely! She might be a fad and a huge flop nowadays but she still left her mark and no one can take that away from her
UseYourIllusion2002 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 She is definitely an icon y’all saying she’s like Cyndi Lauper when she only smashed for one era while Katy did for 3
Rev8 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 If Paula and Cindy are called icons then so is she I mean..yall were pushing Gaga for a legend, but can't admit Katy to be an icon? Truly bias (and I prefer to be on Gaga's side much more than on Katy's)
naval23 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 She had one of the most iconic eras of the 2010s that re-enters the Billboard 200 10+ years post-release with a $25M paycheque for judging a talent competition So yes
Edit0rz Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 (edited) She is still an icon. Time will tell if she is able to generate new hits or keep her catalog alive. I feel like you have to have remembered music to be an icon and right now most people still know Katy and her music. If her music gets left behind then she was a fad but Firework is still a July 4th classic. Edited May 6, 2022 by Edit0rz Is
