hallucinate Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Lorde releasing Solar Power after Melodrama comes to mind first
Perfect Crime Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 NFR --> COCC Not panned but a sizable portion of her fanbase was disappointed with the album & her public image was in question

John Slayne Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Like A Prayer -> Erotica Erotica has been acclaimed in retrospect, but at the time she was dragged mercilessly. Meanwhile Like A Prayer has always been praised as one of her best albums and one of the best albums of all time in general.
HausofNick Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 the melodrama to solar power pipeline is genuinely the best example anyone can give here

Even the normies, straights etc loved her. Then she went all weird, took too long to put out another album (that didn't have one quarter of the fire that NFR has) and deleted social media.
Bloodflowers. Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Tori Amos releasing "The Beekeeper" in 2005 after her best album "Scarlet's Walk" in 2002. That album was so bad it resulted in her commercial decline with each following new release.

The music, the aesthetics and her message were simply un-stan-able. I really liked Ancient Dreams but it didn't even make me want to go and see her live.
UseYourIllusion2002 Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Butterfly —> Rainbow (I feel like Rainbow is more panned nowadays rather than back then). Idk if it’s necessarily “panned” but definitely it has panned/mixed reviews Prism —> Witness. I don’t even think Prism was acclaimed but I think it’s her highest rated Metacritic album.
