D.M.F Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Can an artist actually be global if they don’t have a #1 single and a #1 album in the UK? It’s the 2nd biggest music market!

dirrtydiana Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Britney has more #1 songs in the uk than US so this doesn’t apply to her
ProudLBS Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 #1s don’t mean anything Bionic went #1 with like the lowest sales ever for a #1 album and it’s only Silver (60,000) 2 minutes ago, D.M.F said: Avril doesn’t have a #1 single, so can she be global? she has 3 number #1 albums and would’ve had a 4th one had she released Love Sux the week before
Jaay Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 yes just because your single didn't reach #1 doesn't mean it wasn't a hit but you know this
Brando Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Brittany Spears doesn't have a UK #1 album. She's local I'm afraid
swissman Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Well of course. I mean you could go #2 there and be just fine. You could also not chart there at all but be #1 in every other major market and still be considered global.
sandman Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Can a singer be considered a legend if their career only lasted 7 years?
BrokenMachine Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) Can ATRL stop with the Xtina/Britney threads for today? It's been enough OT: yes, since UK is not the whole world Edited May 3, 2022 by BrokenMachine
Mr. Stratus Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) To be global I think if one Europe country doesn’t stan then another should. So France #1 or German #1 you don’t need them all. You certainly can’t be bigger then other artists with multiple #1 songs and albums though if you don’t have any song/album Edited May 3, 2022 by Mr. Stratus

She's local I'm afraid I guess it all depends how you look at it: For example, Bionic was #1 in the UK in 2010 but only sold 60,000 copies vs let’s say Circus only peaked at #4 a year before and went platinum with over 300,000 copies sold.
magazine Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Yes #1 in the UK mean nothing. Look how irrelevant Little Mix is.

naval23 Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Yes if they end up making top 5 on the year-end INTERNATIONAL European Top 100 Albums chart which not everyone's fav was able to do

Yes, look at the Beatles, Rihanna (2005-2012), Nirvana, Whitney (85-92), Mariah (90-97). OT: Yes, the UK isn’t the whole world in the same way the USA isn’t or China isn’t etc. Edited May 3, 2022 by RihFenty20

KOMH Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 I think a better question is if an artist can be global without cracking the world's 2nd biggest music market, Japan. Very few pop girls have.
mxtthewdelrey Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Charli XCX - #1 album, #1 single Little Mix - #1 album, five #1 singles Billie Eilish - two #1 albums, #1 single my GLOBAL faves!
