nostalgia Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) It’s becoming apparent that Olivia has come at the stage of her career where she has chosen and acknowledged the mentor who will guide her in the pop world. People were expecting her to gravitate towards the generation of Taylor, Gaga, or Katy, having mentioned them as inspirations at the start of her career. Yet the geepee were shocked that she instead chose someone earlier as her main influence… Avril Lavigne. In a way, it isn’t that shocking as we can see Avril blueprint in the pop punk rock sound and aesthetic of Olivia. Olivia has been photographed many times with Avril, has shown love to her in several occasions and has even invited her on tour many times. this is reminiscent of how senior pop girls were able to solidify their legend status when the new generation officially chose them as their mentor. We saw this when Britney chose Madonna as her mentor and sang Me Against the Music. We saw this when Brandy wanted Whitney to mentor her during Cinderella era. And now we are seeing it again with not just Olivia wanting Avril to mentor her, but also stars like Willow, MGK, GAYLE, Ava Max, etc…. So the heft of the influenced she holds among the new gen is enough to deem her as a legend. Edited May 1, 2022 by nostalgia
FAN Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) I’m so happy my first ever concert was Avril back in 2007 (maybe it was 2008?) and Olivia is my #1 in 2022. Just crazy. But how ******* annoying is it that there’s not ONE good clip from this entire tour because every night the screaming is unbearable and out of control Edited May 1, 2022 by FAN
Trent W Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Yeah Avril being the main influence of Billie and Olivia which are Gen Z’s biggest superstars puts her on another level. I mean Avril for me has always been a legend cause she was like the most influential female in the 00s after Britney. But she basically molded the new girls from this generation too.

Avril, Britney and Beyoncé are the definition of the 00s.

MingYouToo Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Avril's legend status is so understated mainly because her peers were doing things beyond music and were way more relevant as celebrities instead of musicians, Avril is really known instead for her amazing 00s catalog. She's definitely part of the 00s trinity along with Britney and Beyonce. They all represent the different diaspora in pop music at the time. I really thought she was gonna lean heavily on Taylor's side as her mentor but its clear with SOUR that there's more Avril in it than Taylor, the sound, the inflections, the way its a strong pop album but really borrows heavily from pop-rock (which Taylor has never done bar Speak Now and RED)

It's true, it's true, yet this forum always denies her impact, as she was erased from history or something. She literally was a movement.

Anyway, she changes her truest inspiration and favorite musician every three weeks, so there's not much to put stock in. I actually do agree with this

She literally was a movement. They deny it all the time because she declined in the 2010s, but honestly there was nothing she could do. Last decade was edm dominated then trap and rap came along. Her genre and style just died. With her 00s dominance, impact and influence alone she earned legend status. Also well her influence in the current generation. Edited May 1, 2022 by Trent W

Yeah, Isn’t Taylor Swift Olivia’s main influence? It will take more than being Olivia’s 6th choice for an influence to make Avril a legend
