pinktennisfreak Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Have you seen Loose streams? One of the most streamed albums from 2000s. It's not surprising at all.

She’s never struggled with money. She was busy being a mom. Her catalog makes enough money. 6 hours ago, Jude said: Good luck on making any profits from that. Loose is one of the most streamed albums from the 00s. One of her flop songs got sampled in a big hit in the UK last year. Seems like someone needs to get in with the times.
Beautiful Garbage Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Nelly noooooo! The Ride was one of my favorite albums of 2017! I know she's still got it - such a shame honestly but she knows what's best for her.
imabadkid Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I feel like she should’ve gotten more, she’s had a ton of hits going all the way back to like 2000 with I’m Like A Bird.
Mystic Boy Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Does selling your catalogue prevent you from releasing new music in the future ?
PopKills Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 14 hours ago, Electric Youth said: but we deserve a final album tho. The Ride wasn't THAT good as goodbye album. That's the only thing I demand from her as a stan It kind of has goodbye-album written all over it in hindsight, her reflecting on her career, post-Loose depression, her divorce, not caring about the bling anymore etc. But yeah, I’m kinda bummed too, she always said she still wants to do music when she’s in her 80s. She will always be an icon of the 2000s though.

rzal Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Does this mean she won't get any royalties from her music now?

Does it depend on the contract? Because that's what this article is implying...
Harry Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Big Hoops alone should’ve been enough to mark the price up to 100M this is a scam

Girl we are the ones struggling with money I think her net work was about 10-30M before the deal OT.: Get your coins legend Hope she releases more music tho. The ride was excellent
Gwendolyn Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Gen Z definitely helped her get back into the limelight when it came to her music - happy for her and I hope she enjoys her retirement!

The first deal was agreed last month with the estate of the late Leonard Cohen. Wait I knew Blackstone was eating up all the real estate and gouging renters but now they are eating up music catalogs. Anyways, Nelly's I'm like a bird, turn off the light, say it right will hopefully be licensed and pushed more. No hay igual needs to go viral Afraid needs to have her moment Glow needs to also have her moment. that is all Maneater deserved icon status but Promiscuous girl overshadowed. The original Umbrella/Shut up and drive Now that is truly all. Get money Nelly
obrigado Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I'm not totally sure but she will donate this to clean her image (Gadafi) and release new stuff.... We miss her a lot.
GiulioLIFESTYLE Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Wait, would selling her catalogue prevent her from releasing new/unreleased stuff?! I have been checking my new music Friday playlist every freaking week since she teased new music in October 2020 I love her so much I am not ready for this ?

Nah, if she was broke she would've been doing tours and side gigs like paid partnerships etc. It seems like she's chosen to live a very quiet life raising her kids in Canada. She might've had to self-finance more albums, since her new album sales were really low, but she could do it if she wanted to. On 4/28/2022 at 6:23 PM, nathanspears said: Congrats queen wow But how are these investment things expecting to make anything back?... What's the idea behind it? It's a bet that people are going to keep streaming her songs in the future. They're paying her a lot of money in exchange for all future earnings. They're hoping that the songs will keep bringing in millions of dollars annually. Once they've made back 50 million, it'll become pure profit. A good example is how MJ bought the Beatles catalog, which was one of the best investments of all time. On 4/29/2022 at 8:30 AM, Mystic Boy said: Does selling your catalogue prevent you from releasing new music in the future ? This is a good point. In the article, it says it's for her back catalog. She won't make any more money from her old songs, but she can still release new music and tour her old material if she wants to. manwhore Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 How do royalties get paid to Timbaland who is responsible for 80% of the reason anyone would even want her songs. BTW 50 milli seems too high for 2 songs. Promiscuous girl and that Spanish song with Wisin Y Yandel but work I guess queen.

Nelly is most probably getting the amount of money she would collect in the next 20-30 years (let's say- till the end of her life) from her catalogue, but it's for sure less than total amount of royalties she and her successors would earn till the end of legal protection of her music. So, she has to be drying up such a stable source of income for a reason, and a reason could be: 1. she's now securing financing of her future musical projects. Considering she's independent and 40+ she has to pay for everything by herself. With 50 mil $ we may get a proper production and maybe even a nice MV this time 2. she'll use this money to launch her daughter's own musical career. i once read that Dr. Luke spent more than 20 mil usd to manufacture some never-been name I can't even recall now. 50 mil $ would be more than enough (and Nevis actually has been in the studio lately). 3. Hodgy wants a new Ferrari and baby momma is buying him 7- one for each day of week Anyway, despite that fact that her music proved to be a multi-generational staple, new owners will also be interested in future releases, as it always boosts the catalogue (and especially will in the times of music streaming) tl;dr we may get something "soon" (and I hope it's not Hodgy's new ride ) Edited May 4, 2022 by karma police
