Scotland Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Music-wise and pop culture-wise. Let's see: 2008 - 14: Our beloved electro-pop music and said variations reigned. 2016-NOW: Trap and modern rap music started taking over and it's not going anywhere. Edited April 26, 2022 by Scotland
toy soldier. Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I feel like trap is pretty much over, isn't it?
St. Charles Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Electropop was already kinda over in 2013. EDM took over after that. ~1998-2001 Bubblegum Pop more dominant ~2002-2005 R&B was dominant ~2006-2008 Pop rock ~2009-2012 Dance pop (gaga, dr luke, etc) ~2013-2016 EDM (+ tropical house stuff) ~2017-2019 downtempo / spacey trap ~2020-2021 uptempo trap honestly i feel like emo rock mixed with trap is next. most of the trap music is being rock-ified right now. idk what it'll be called but get ready for everything to sound like MGK and that billie eilish song where she's in the rain.
Trent W Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Trap sounds dated in 2022. Rock and alternative sounds are what is going to dominate the rest of the decade. Rap and Rock mixing will probably be extremely trendy in the next years.
On The Bound Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Trap has definitely been waning since 2019...singer-songwriter is the new trend

I feel like with the pandemic that trend kinda disappeared since no one really wanted to listen to "moody" stuff while living in such a depressing reality. Just the other day I was trying to stream TUN & alot of it sounds so dated in hindsight because of the trap influence I don't really think rock will dominate the new decade, this decade will probably be similar to the 00s where you have pop-rock/rock, R&B, etc, and pure pop/EDM will become trendy again by the late 20s

It probably won’t be an “absolute domination” but I do think it will be mostly dominant in the scene because is not a sub-genre like synth pop, disco or edm that all are part of dance music. Rock is a whole different culture and category with its own subgenres so it might rise and stay for a while. I do think that edm or dance music will rise again in the late 2020s.

Heidi's Chair Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I mean maybe trap is not as big anymore but it still holds a big percent of mainstream music Also drill kind of became the it hip hop subgenre

CristianGarcia Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Music has been slow paced for years now. I could see drill and hyper pop being the main genre in a couple years Edited April 26, 2022 by CristianGarcia
BGXKB Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Trap has way outlived and will easily outlive anything else given its ability to evolve that most other genres lack.

Iaintsorry Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Reading all the comments and everyone has a different idea of “what’s next”
bad guy Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Trap is still huge in hip hop. Rap isn't going anywhere as much this site wishes it would.
