It seems that these days any girl at her peak can get "universal acclaim", back in the 2000s and early 2010s, these albums would've been lucky to scrap a 70. Honestly if feels like the redneck reviewers really fear the gay stans of these girls.

1989

EDIT: Oh mess I thought this referred to albums that helped create poptimism, not necessarily albums that don't deserve their high scores. :ace: 1989 100% deserves its high score.

Ariana, Selena, Camila, Justin and Dua being acclaimed.

Love some of their music to varying degrees, but let's be honest, the vast majority of it is very empty.

Also this. Revival is a million times better than Rare and yet ...Rare is general is a bad album.

It's extremely extremely safe

Rare getting a +70 on Metacritic.

Anything by Camila getting a +70 on Metacritic.

Future Nostalgia getting a +80 on Metacritic.

Sour getting a +80 on Metacritic.

The truth is that critical acclaim = fan base most likely to send you death threats nowadays. Hence why Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons and other GP-oriented artists get bullied left and right. As a Swiftie it would be hypocrite of me to say Taylor didn't benefited from that, but I think her only overrated album was Lover. Folklore, Evermore and Red all deserved their +80 scores, I would add 1989 in that group too.

I still don't know what Poptism is can someone explain

Being reviewed by "prestigious" publications and taken seriously for making pop music. Whether it's absolutely terrible/generic af or not, you can get awesome scores because some people are trying to rectify the sh*t that pop music has taken for decades.

It's your job to decipher which scores were given honestly and which ones are given MASSIVE boosts to rectify the actual faults of the past so much that it becomes an insult/joke to the readers. :foxaylove3:

It's Carly Rae's fault for releasing the best pop album known to mankind. After Emotion, suddenly pop music became a critics favourite. The poppier, the better.

Future Nostalgia and Thank U Next.

Had they been released in 2011 they would’ve received a 40.

K bye for now, Sunshine. <3
