I guess the first movie will cut to black after Defying Gravity?

also I hope they don’t use this extended running time to actually show Dorothy and the other characters, they way it’s done in the show is perfect

Dune waited until opening weekend to have part 2 greenlit and announced, so the studio must be feeling very confident about this... I honestly don't know what to expect :rip:

This is so dumb. why would anyone see Part 2? The best songs are all in Act 1.

The musical is 2 hours and 40 minutes and has some stuff they could’ve cut for the movie.

We didn’t ask for a Wicked extended universe. Just a ******* good Wicked movie.

I love wicked but I'm not sure it's two movies worth of content tbh. :dies:

What has Jon Chu done successfully? Quickly.

Yeah two movies is absolutely not necessary, I mean this ain't Dune :rip: the musical is around 2 and half hours, that's more than enough for a movie

My excitement kinda nosedived

In the Heights. It's f*cking perfection.

This project already sounds like a nonstarter. They're setting themselves up.

What happened to the Hercules live action movie? Meg would have been a much better role for Ariana.

This is... a choice. I'm anxious about how this is going to translate into the big screen as it is, but I'm personally not sure two instalments is necessary. I get this was a book and there's more story to explore than what the musical goes off on as well, but other than Ariana fans, the core audience for this will be fans of the musical, and I think theres enough to cut to still make one instalment successful. The Phantom of the Opera went from 2:45 runtime to 2:20 and was still able to be successful enough to be the most successful movie adaption of a musical of all time. I don't know there's enough to stretch out of both Wicked acts to make this work, but we'll see.

Musicals are already dying at the box office, this director's last musical was a massive bomb and this led them to think "We should do TWO"?

Another (two) flops in the basket.

I just thought it was uneven. some amazing bright spots, and a lot of numbers and scenes that fell flat.

but I respect you as one of the only other theatre queens on this site so I'll give it a rewatch and hopefully I'll be more optimistic :chick1:
