I got the magic cl*t

I know if I get licked once, I get licked twice.
Sucking the magic sticks,
Shorty you don't believe me, then come with me tonight.
And I'll show you magic
(What? What?) magic,
I got the magic cl*t.

How close did Missy Elliott's "Work It", Lizzo "Truth Hurts", Doja Cat's "Say So/Kiss Me More", and Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" get? Surprised that all 4 didn't make it to #1, especially because they all crossed over in a big way to the main 4 formats (Urban, Rhythmic, Top 40, Hot AC).

Yeah Truth Hurts was #1: https://www.billboard.com/charts/radio-songs/2019-09-22/

Say So got blocked by Blinding Lights

Work It by Lose Yourself

Pretty sure Superbass was fighting that LMAFO song and RITD.

I wouldn't say that at all. I just think timing has messed her up in the past (Anaconda and Super Bass would've been EASY #1s in many other Hot 100 weeks), and sometimes her label doesn't invest in the right singles (Truffle Butter was DEFINITELY #1 potential with the right Nicki/Drake/Wayne visual, as well as Masquerade with a feature like Kesha, Rih or Katy).

Her longevity and the ability to comeback to the top 5 of the Hot 100 this year is a testament to that.

Say So had to battle da biggest song of all time

And that says it all.

Female rap classics + future classic for Latto

Wow I thought that thing would be listed but POP and AC was so big on radio at that time so maybe it just peaked top 10 or something.

not surprised by work it because Lose yourself blocked it on the hot 100 so I figured.

it was #2 for months on the hot 100.

What is Truth hurts classified as? Pop. Rhythmic or Rap. The pre-cursor to Doja Cat me thinks.

I'm assuming Pop or rhythmic.

All the people using but but it was up against competition as if none of the other songs hitting #1 had competition

:rip:

I'll add Truth Hurts because for some reason Billboard says it's a rap song  :skull:

Billboard doesn't consider Say So and Kiss Me More as Rap Songs. And they didn't reach #1 on Radio Songs. Both peaked at #2 on Radio Songs.

It's so strange that they claim it's a rap song yet she's nominated for pop and r&b (but mainly pop) categories.

I don't think anyone knows her to have a true rap song but meh. Tier 1 Grammy categorization >>>>> tier 2

Yup. both are pop songs and both are slays as pop songs.

I know...it's crazy right. I would like to know their justification behind it.

Hip hop ok but rap.

Hip hop and rap are two different things although similar.
