Wannabe is the seventh best-selling debut single of all time and the biggest girl group track ever. The fastest-selling single ever by a girl group is 2 Become 1, 462.000 copies were bought in its first week, the album sold 364.675 copies that week. Was the first of three consecutive Christmas Number 1 singles, the only other act to pull off this feat are The Beatles. The first act to peak at Number 1 with their first six singles. The debut album Spice is the biggest ever by a girl group in UK chart history, spent more weeks at Number 1 (15) than ones by any other girl group. Follow-up Spiceworld is the second. Mel B was the first Spice Girl to score a solo Number 1 single, with her Missy Elliott collaboration I Want You Back, and the last top ten hit was Emma Bunton single Downtown, in total 29 top ten solo singles. Melanie C is the only act in Official Chart history to claim a Number 1 single by herself, with a collaboration, and in a quartet and quintet. Posted April 25, 2022 Share Posted April 25, 2022 The group success is astronomical, the fact all members found some success is to this day still a feat that hasn’t been done by another UK girl group (well, Mel B was an utter flop as musician but at least she was a big celeb). Every member have a multiple top ten singles, that is impressive, Cheryl was the only one with solo succes in GA. (the thread is about UK, so) Northern Star album is on par with Cheryl first album in the UK and way bigger internationally, and still enjoy top ten albums 20 years later. The point is every member have multiple top ten hits, thats something only the Beatles score and recently 1D For example Nicola best charting song is at #27 and Nadine at #26 Is very rare in a band that every member enjoy succes singles, and the SG have 29 top ten solo singles.
