Why do people love hating/insulting online?

Well the question says it all.

Usually on social networks where you are not identifiable or in forums people love to show their worst part (or maybe it's their real face): they insult, threaten, mock etc. even in our small community a similar phenomenon occurs. Each fanbase has its own "crazy / troll" users, but I think you will agree that there is one fanbase in particular that likes to spread nasty, insulting, mocking and so on. I don't wanna mention names, but there are users who have spent at least the last 5 years of their life on this forum insulting others more than supporting theirs. Every reason is good to mock them,  they even act in groups in topics that the administration should close more often. Wouldn't it be better to ban these people? we all love being shady sometimes, but if a user makes 25 threads where he just tries to mock / provoke and / or 20 of their 30 posts are insulting / flame for X what is the point of still being in this community? it just hurts and ruins the mood, it's like hate is a part of them and they can't live it in the quiet / fun way that being shady is supposed to be.

I don't get it either. I spend more time focusing on my faves than the same usual drama. Its fun to watch people have melt downs though over the smallest of things

Cuz they dont have the guts to do it irl so they found a platform where they can do it safely

sadly I've noticed that at least one third of the active users in here provide nothing but flamebait / trolling or straight up hating with their actions. I agree that it would be nice to get rid of these people, but seeing that a lot of them have been on this website for over a decade it doesn't seem likely to happen (some of these users even manage to revoke their permabans btw).

Because on the internet you can bash & shade anyone as much as you want with little to no actual repercussions

I do agree though, some users here have done nothing but hate on certain artists for more than a decade, kind of embarrassing

but i understand if you throw digs at someone every now and then, let's be honest it's fun. But they really are devoured by an anger too great to carry it on for years, it is not healthy and honestly I dare to say also harmful to their extra life online. It's kinda no sense too because they spend most of the time hating people they claim to be over, pathetic and so on.

I understand what you are saying about how for these people who in real life would fringe immediately it is easier online, there should be a way to moderate these spaces though. I still read users who in 5 years make the same threads with the same provocations. Like, do we need them?

I don't think the activity would decline that much if we got rid of O_Hs altogether (especially the ones who have been stirring sh*t up for YEARS) but it's only my opinion

Because they think they're powerful on internet, no one will come up behind them and punch them in the face

1. They’re bored

2. They’re scary irl

3. They’re being insulted/abused irl so its misplaced anger or they feel powerful to attack others.

and why r u not a mod

There is a difference between trolling/Flamebait for fun and then people who take the hating a lil too seriously, like it's some kind of full time job for them.

the second kind should be banned and maybe find a reason to exist outside of their hateful bubble.

I mean..there are a group of ppl that go out of their way to make troll posts or just outright lies

agendas and such

so I get the attacks against them (even tho some of them fall under a stanbase name and it's like u are attacking all of their fans for the actions of some)

but also...comments like "only prolapsed twinks think.."  are really dumb :toofunny3: u are totally blocking a chance for discussion and understanding of one's answer

it's almost like the comment is actually for Them to read :deadbanana2:

but there is a constant fight in a mean-spirited way..so that's just one way of a combating tactic without looking too fragile or w/e..

Anyways I understand the users being here for so long and rooting/defending their fav

but it is weird when I see them Continue being so mean-spirited ..like..you've lived thru SYG, it's time to calm down lol

I remember constantly going in fights and just dragging before..but then I felt how that's really just a waste of my energy

Since the ones Im fighting, wont even listen lol, it's deffo better to focus on the few users who will actually have a nice argument (altho I must admit, I like to "troll" sometime)

ppl are broke (financially, mentally, spiritually) & miserable

they have no life and pour their anger on the Internet

They’re punk b*tches irl. There’s quite a few loud ones roaming around here.

They're miserable with their lives and they want everybody else to be the same, also the anonymity that the internet provides encorage them to be more trashy.

I feel # 3 is a lot of what happens as the world continues to showcase cruelty to others as commonplace but # 2 is also very valid. Pre 2020, I figured half the scary people online were goofing around.

I engaged with people for years who I mistook actual dangerous behavior for trolling online. A lot of the insanity I brushed off as dark humor actually scares me a little now.

Especially as I have worked more with my own therapist. I read every response as an angry attack online and would become aggravated for no reason.

My family is constantly combative and I took that approach to dealing with strangers online. It was incredibly counter productive and the mod team was super chill. I would occasionally get 24 hour breathing breaks and I loved them for that. Everyone likes to hate on the mods, but they have to deal with shitty people and really do their best.

The way feminism leaves my body only for the panniston threads. I’m one of the good girls here. I love sharing my unbiased opinions. Always ready to drag my faves too.

Never insulted users and never had a fight cause I rarely interact. Phewww

Because it's convenient and easy to hide behind an online profile and remain (mostly) anonymous while you bash others because you simply disagree and have internal problems that you are projecting onto others. I may be someone with a lot of issues but I know better than to cause any for anyone that could lead to self-harm, depression, anxiety, and/or other mental health disorders.
