Message in a Bottle is a bop. Why didn't it do well?

I like it, but it was clearly meant to be produced by Max Martin, so it’s missing something in the pop production area. It does grow on you after many listens, though.

she has some classics but this is such a bland basic song…anyone who isn’t a swiftie probably isn’t going to care for it that much ?

Agreed. It's the kind of song you'd hear in a North Carolinian grocery store and get slightly annoyed by in the checkout line

That is so true. Hope you are having a good day, Aaron.

The problem with this song is obvious and likely the reason why she left it off the album in the first place - it’s absolutely faceless

It’s a bop, don’t get me wrong. But it sounds like a pop song anyone in the early 2010s might release. Taylor is much more particular about her music. Everything she ever releases - no matter the genre or style or whatever - sounds like a “Taylor Swift” song. This song sounds like a reject from some random nobody’s debut record.

I personally like it, but I could never imagine in a million years that it would be a hit.

I totally disagree — this is purely and thoroughly a Taylor Swift song.

It didn’t do better because it was not promoted. The focus went to other tracks which sold albums & earned her another #1.
