I don't get it. I couldn't watch while it was airing so I'm catching up now and I'm still as in love with this show as I was when it premiered. I managed to steer clear of major spoilers but I did get the impression that fans were disappointed? I get that it moves at a different pace and has its own style (I'd argue) compared to GoT but it's absolutely gorgeous with some of the best television performances of recent times. I'm routinely enthralled by these characters even if they aren't always doing much happy that we'll get two more seasons to finish the story. I love the world they've built :jamming:

I don't think it's nearly as interesting due to the fact that it's an intra-familial drama. With GOT you had drastically shifting POVs from all across Westeros, the dialogue was top notch, and even the early seasons were packed with iconic scenes (power is power, chaos is a ladder, etc). HOTD dialogue falls flat and none of the characters are particularly likeable (I say this as a Cersei stan).

I think this is a matter of taste because I actually re-watched a few scenes from GOT’s earliest seasons (they were making the rounds on my TikTok feed) and found the dialogue quite overwrought and self-indulgent. I don’t know if people remember this, but one of the criticisms of the first two seasons was just how much extensive exposition was thrown at the audience. That’s a necessary tactic with a genre like fantasy but I find HotD deals with it better. It, of course, has the benefit of coming after GOT even though it’s a prequel.

I will always commend GOT for many things, including its expansive cast and world, but there were more than several characters whose POVs I truly couldn’t get into. I’m talking POVs that lasted seasons and seasons. Rob’s, Bran’s, Sansa’s occasionally Arya’s, Jamie’s and Cersi’s too.

Also, and this will be a hot take, but I found the performances in GOT to be wildly inconsistent. I love Emilia and Lena but they had numerous outings that I found lackluster not to mention several other cast members who routinely fell flat. Kit, Rob, Sophie, Isaac, Richard, Peter (with his ever changing accent) all had their fair share of faltered beats and moments. Between Matt, Olivia, Emma, Paddy, Eve, Ewan, Stephen and Rhys there’s just not nearly as many weak links.

Re: intra-family, I completely understand and validate your point. However, that specificity and deep exploration into a more contained story is what makes me excited with every episode of HotD. But again, that’s all subjective and I totally respect and understand the criticisms.

And there are larger and more toxic butterflies to come, if HOUSE OF THE DRAGON goes ahead with some of the changes being contemplated for seasons 3 and 4…

I hate to say this but the casts are what makes it less interesting. Emma is not a great candidate to portrait rhaenyra..the child actress is however has strong vibe..the time jump is also a stupid idea and killed the show in their first two episodes.

Child rhaenyra>>>>> Emma...

Also the protagonizing of black team kills any future drama and excitement.... We don't want another John snow formula for rhaenyra...she shouldve been the influence to what Daenerys have become....

I still enjoy the show tho...

Milly was good but Emma has so much more on their plate as adult Rhaenyra and is consistently knocking it out of the park

Kind of sick of the fans crying over Nettles. Y'all act like she takes the throne at the end or something

I must say, being practically ran out from this thread by targaryen/ Dany stans for voicing my very accurate dissatisfaction with the whitewashing of TB and the very bad writing choices since the start of the season only for George RR Martin himself to come out and call out the writers for their butchering of the story and characters and the entire audience to turn on the show by the final is VERY satisfying :gaycat4:.  I'm glad I stopped watching with the third ep of this season, I'm always so ahead of the curve :gaycat1:.
