I kinda hate when a show falls from Grace!  It was far from being terrible…although criticism is definitely valid!

I liked it. Yes slow but had a lot of character development and my Queen Alicent got so much screentime. And is building up for an amazing S3

watch people complain because they are going to fast and do barely any character development lol

i still remember when they said S1 was "going too slow", then the next week it was "they are going too fast!"

By the way, why was Otto in prison? Does it happen in the book too?

Book readers, feel free to spoil to me

Sure, Ryan. Can't wait for 1.5 battles next season.

Season 1 did a great job of wiping off the stench that was left by GoT Season 8. It made the world feel interesting and exciting again. The writing was mostly good and the acting was top notch (Viserys alone!). With Season 2 they are fumbling the bag yet AGAIN. Miguel left and took all the creativity with him it seems. The writing and the pacing were just bad. What has even happened this season? 1 shocking baby killing scene (which they did halfway anyways) and 1 battle. That's it. We also had 5 episodes of Daemon dreaming and having hallucinations, which is crazy. Why are we stretching this storyline out and padding the episodes? It felt like I was watching an old show that had 21 episodes a season where they needed content to fill the episodes, not an 8 episode season. We also had Rhaenyra being unsure the whole season and when she was finally ready to do something - the season was over. Yes, GoT was slow at times as well, but it didn't need constant battles to be exciting. The constant plotting, the scheming, the set up/pay off that it had was exciting in itself to watch. Dany scenes alone were always interesting to watch. It did not need battles each episode to be exciting.

Next season they need to:

1. Stick as close to the book as possible and stop making their own (inferior) stuff up.

2. Stop padding the episodes and stretching out storylines for no reason.

3. Stop trying to tie in this show into Game of Thrones. The audience does NOT need to be reminded of how atrocious Season 8 was and how bad the ending was unless they are ready to re-write and re-shoot Season 8 of GoT.

If they are starting production at the beginning of next year that means we are for sure getting Season 3 around Summer 2026. Will people still care about this show 2 years later after an underwhelming Season 2? They need to BRING it on all fronts next season or this show will just remain a wasted opportunity in reviving a dying franchise.

It was so strange the way they showed him for 2 seconds in a nondescript cage without any context :rip:

E8 was pretty underwhelming, but I'm sure they're just setting us up for a huge finale!  Can't wait for the final two episodes!  All this build-up is about to pay off! :duca:

I'm starting to think HBO forcing them to move ahead with the production while the strike was ongoing was a huge mistake and you can see the shortcomings on the pacing and writing for the season. E8 wraps up like a penultimate episode

I actually liked this season.  Overall, I thought the writing was still very solid.  I don't have an issue with the majority of the book-to-show changes they made, and some, like Alicent's larger presence and significant development, are actually improvements.  I think in the context of the overall show (assuming S3 and 4 are both high-quality and have a lot of action) we'll look back on S2 more fondly as a really solid set-up season, almost like S2 of GOT, though that at least had the Blackwater Battle.  In this, they couldn't even be bothered to show the burning of Sharp Point.  I hope they are saving tons of money for S3, because if this is the budget we're working with moving forward, I'm very concerned for the quality of the battles to come.

The finale, unfortunately, was very underwhelming.  I would say it was the weakest episode of the whole season, even if you ignore the fact that it's the finale.  It just didn't have much going on.  I had already resigned myself to the fact that Rhaena claiming Sheepstealer was going to be the only "big" moment, but we didn't even see much of that.  Lohar was awful.  I liked seeing Tyrosh and some development for Tyland, but she was giving Sand Snake, a walking caricature with horrific acting.

I didn't like the vision with Dany.  Shoehorning in yet another connection to GOT was lame.  Like others have said, they should be trying to distance themselves from S8, not reference it :pukey:   And Daemon's arc ended with him in the exact spot as last season.  That whole storyline could've been five minutes.  Corlys at the dock AGAIN zzzzzzzzzzz.

The final conversation between Rhaenyra and Alicent was by far the best part of the episode.  I really love what they're doing with Alicent's character, and I believe there's some incredible social commentary here.  Rhaenyra telling Alicent that she'll be remembered as a villain is especially interesting considering that's how she's seen online.

Spoiler

And how she's written in Fire And Blood.

I am excited for S3 but I truly can't believe we have to wait two years for it, and I worry that the GP won't give a **** by then, especially after they dragged this season up and down for being boring.  I don't understand why we have to suffer through such long breaks.  If they could make GOT S4 and GOT S6 in one year each, there's no reason they need to take two years for HOTD seasons.

The writing this season was so all over the place. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt but they need to tighten up next season.
