Was thinking the same thing. Since GRRM is allegedly more involved in this production than the latter seasons of GOT, I hope this is his way of rectifying the atrocities committed and letting us know how it's actually supposed to end.

they don't really control it. they started a tradition of putting eggs in cradles so that baby Targs bond with baby dragons from early on. but, there's always dragons that hatch alone, and Targs can claim those hatchlings. some hatchlings never get claimed, so they grow to be large and no one wants them when they're grown and never ridden. however, we don't know much about those things yet. we just know that there are dragons that had never bonded with a rider

Sort of, yes. HOTD is trying to make it look like the Targaryens have this major role to play in the upcoming fight against the Night King, but then you watch GOT and Daenerys' role against the White Walkers was quite insignificant, and it was mostly about Bran, who the Night King was after, and Arya, who was the one to strike the final blow, and neither of these two have any link to or blood of Targaryens.
It's not even a subversion of expectations where you could say that the promised prince of these prophecies was meant to be Jon Snow/Aegon, who's not a typical silver-haired, dragon-hatching Targaryen… but all he did in the final battle is scream at an undead dragon.

She didn't tho? The North was always skeptical of her and they only cooperated because Jon was involved, albeit with Jon or without Jon what choice did they have knowing an ancient deadly entity was coming their way & his first stop was always gonna be Winterfell 💀. At the same time, the realm wasn't exactly united as the prophecy suggested, it was divided with the King's Landing forces never rushing to aid, so that part of the prophecy ended up being irrelevant tbh.

but it never says that she is the prince that was promised. Daemon only sees a vision of Dany hatching three dragons

 

the point with GRRM visions is that they just show you something, and you interpret them. i think the show got that point. Viserys thought he had a vision of his son with Aemma. it turned out to be the son with Alicent. he also thought that Rhaenyra was the prince that was promised, but she wasn't. what my point is that seeing Dany in a vision doesn't mean she's the prince that was promised, just as seeing Bloodraven doesn't mean he is. Daemon can give meaning to those visions. in that way, this vision is really on brand with what George has written. true meaning of the vision is just that in the future there will be a Targaryen woman that will hatch three dragons in a pyre and that they will play a role 

 

and all the people who think that Daemon's vision means that Dany is the prince that was promised fall in the trap of the prophecy, just like Daemon, Viserys, Aegon, Rhaegar and many more of them did (we'll see one such case next year in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Melisandre too 

 

the prophecy stuff in HotD comes from George himself. they're trying to be true to his material and hopefully fix the ending. people on r/freefolk are just bitter. i wonder whether they will act the same when George releases the next book and it contradicts the thighs they are sure of 

 

fun fact: when you google "the prince that was promised" it shows you Daenerys Targaryen

I suppose they were going for a, let's say, "realistic" look, but I would have preferred the dragons' colors to be more saturated and distinctive. Not that I have trouble recognizing them, as I'm not a casual viewer, but their uniqueness kinda gets lost.
