It's not as simple. Dragons once sired to their riders are connected by soul. Fire blood magic in Old Valyria powerful enough to obliterate the continent was used to bond dragons to House Targaryen. Vhagar and Aemond are sired, it's a magic bond. She acts as Aemond desires regardless of whatever she wants.

Girl I know pls :deadbanana4: You didn't think I was serious when I said Vhagar went for Aemond's d right..

I'm wondering where season 2 will end… is it with

  Hide contents

Damon and Rhaenyra capturing Kings Landing while Aemond and Criston are away?

Open S3 with Rhaenyra ruling. Aemond going all out in the Riverlands.

Godseye in mid season 3 like this episode.

End S3 with the Storming of the Dragonpitt.

Open S4 with the aftermath of that.

The BBQ of Rhaenyra/Aegon poisoned a bit after in the middle of the season.

Hour of the Wolf to close the series.

Spoiler

Battle of the Gullet probably. I've seen some people say it will be early S3 but I kinda don't know what else they could fit in the remaining 4 episodes?

To be honest I don't see that necessarily as an issue. We know Vhagar is big, old and slow (notice how both time she killed it was achieved by waiting and then attacking, kinda like a shark) so if anything smaller and quicker dragons might have an advantage, even if only numerical. The plan as I see it is having one dragon distract Vhagar while the other weakens her, rinse and repeat until they take her down. It's a bet even in that case considering everything is snack when compared to Vahag's size, but a 1v1 is a surefire loss imho.

Idk I feel like a rested and healhy Meleys could take Vaghar 1v1. Younger, faster and a more experienced rider. But Meleys was injured and tired from taking down Sunfyre while also trying to defend herself from the hag...

Also, the way Daemon's plan to take down Vaghar was (unintentionally) implemented by the greens here also adds salt to injury

Tbf Sunfyre is young and doesnt know combat. Not to mention poor dragon probably thought they were going for a ride over the Crownlands and instead Clowngon flew ha right into battle with a bad ***** not afraid to throw hands

Possibly, yes! Even tired and injured she managed to injure Vhagar a bit so I can see it. But then again, why risk it all alone when you can get other people to assist and make the job easier?

Tea. It pains me to say it but Daemon ate with that plan for once

Why is ist worse for me when dragons get injured and die than when people die. Sunfyre and Meleys.

When I first saw Vhagar lying on the ground I thought they camouflaged her until I noticed it is just her old skin.:ahh:

Anyway RIP to the queen that should've been.

So poised, wise, tactful and brave.

One of my favorite characters of GOT ever, wish she got even more screen time and dialogues.

I'm not the biggest book purist but yeah, the show's implementation of Rook's Rest was kinda messy cause why would Rhaenys go back when as far as she knew she had already taken down Aegon and knew going 1v1 against Vhagar with an already tired Meleys was too risky. :gaycat6:

In the books she at least was really trapped and could not escape cause Sunfyre would've most likely caught up to her, engaging her long enough for Vhagar to deal the final blow, so she decided to do as much damage as possible, but here she had a clear opportunity to retreat after taking down one dragon… and somehow just didn't take it. It comes across as a pointless sacrifice. :gaycat6:

Also kind of sad to see Eve Best's departure, she really was one of the best actors on the show. A true scene-stealing presence.

And on another note, kind of worrying that they have stopped releasing ratings figures alltogether after the season opener's decline.

Another great episode!  I admit I was a little worried about the Battle of Rook's Rest after Blood & Cheese was a massive FLOP, but it ended up being spectacular.  The build-up showing how all three dragons ended up there (Aegon being restless, Rhaenys volunteering herself, Aemond scheming with Criston) was great.  Rhaenys and Meleys' moments before and during the battle were heartbreaking, you could see their 40+ year bond shining through.  And Aegon's moment with Sunfyre, the first time he's looked genuinely happy all season, was beautiful.

Also, as a book reader, I was expecting to feel sad about certain people's deaths, but I forgot that the dragon deaths are going to hit incredibly hard.  Meleys and Sunfyre both going down today was devastating :weeps:

As for the HAG, she needs to be PUT DOWN, she's the #1 cause of dragon deaths in Westeros at this point!  Cybertruck built ***** ass :irate:

Rhaenys was one of the best characters, a true queen through and through.  I feel like she had everything - the temperament, the wisdom, the strength, the courage, the grace - to be one of the greatest rulers of all time.  If only she hadn't been passed over.  Eve Best will also be missed.  She did a phenomenal job.

Also, I was excited to see Oscar Tully introduced!

I love this so much despite the fact that Aegon is an annoying brat.

I need this scene recreated with Jace and Vermax immediately

With Rhaenyra and Jace at least it's more subtle, the only thing that irks me there is the CW level acting Miss Pouty Face serves :skull: Especially this episode, it was giving Otto & Aegon arguing, the difference in the quality of acting was so noticable

This incessant hatred of HOTD's prettiest character is giving vHAGar's obsession with hating on the younger, more beautiful dragons!

Leave him alone!

I'm going to say something controversial yet brave. It should've been Jace instead of Queen Rhaenys. Sorry Vermax katara

Great episode; only annoyed about how they had Rhaenys fly back that last time to fall right into Aemond's trap. Like... they couldn't send her off with a little more savvy? :chick2:

Also, as a mod who also reads this thread regularly, I'm going to start warning posts from book readers saying things like, "I'm gonna cry tonight" or "I hate Character X. So excited to see next week's episode" etc. These are implicit spoilers and annoying for those of us who haven't read the book. Keep those comments in spoiler tags and label them appropriately.

THANK YOU! Not to be a ***** to any book readers in here but some of us genuinely do NOT want to know what's coming. We all know how it ends sure, but we don't know timelines or specifics. So implying things is just so irritating and annoying because it ruins the element of surprise.

Im so annoyed I knew Rhaenys was going to die because of all the reactions to her stills. Every time she won a fight I just kept thinking "but well she's going to die right so vhagar clearly isn't done yet"

I hate watching TV like that. I purposely avoid books I know are being adapted to the screen. Just f'ing wait for stuff to happen before talking about it. It's not that hard.

also not the show pulling this 'vHAGar sneaks up on her foe quietly and appears suddenly from behind the castle/a cloud' the second time for the shock value... like you wouldn't hear the clap of her giant dusty asscheeks from a mile away

Eve Best the actress that you are. I feel gutted about losing Rhaenys and Meleys. That shot of vHAGar crunching Meleys' neck was traumatising. How does such a hoaky big ***** manage to spring a deadly surprise attack not once but twice now:weeps:

Rhaenys FELT like a main character in this show from day one even though she is supposed to represent a typical 'close but no cigar' character doomed to quietly suffer more in the background. For both of those reasons I was not expecting her to lose her life relatively quickly in this story.

Rhaenyra needs to step the **** up, her reluctance is allowing even Crispin Cole to outwit her YIKES

As per the teaser: The Greens

Spoiler

parading Meleys' head on the street of King's Landing is so ******* stupid of them. The message is clear: dragons can be killed and we are vulnerable

I'm shocked Aemond who seems to be obsessed with their heritage let them do this

On a wishlist note: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a scene of Helaena and Dreamfyre, we only saw it fly with her back on season 1 for like 2 seconds. The regular show watcher probably doesnt even know she's a dragonrider. I'd kill for a scene of her petting it or even riding it around King's Landing. But the budget is probably gone on that battle lol

As much as I want to hate Vhagar, I can't. Especially when I remember that scene between Laena and Vhagar :cries:

And Vhagar is literally the last of the big three.

And honestly, I'm SO happy they put respect on Meleys' name and showed how she can (AND DID!) whoop Vhagar's old ass in a 1vs1.

Vhagar only won because of the sneak attack. If they were to continue fighting Meleys would've taken Vhagar down with her

The final scene between Rhaenys and Meleys is still make me teary eyed :cries:

Lowkey I still think that scene is the standout moment from this show so far, maybe up until today. It was tragic, but expanded more on the bond between dragon and rider, and it essentially puts this whole gory story in motion as Aemond acquires vHAGar
