JGibson Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 This thread features the happenings of the 2022-23 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, 17-game/18-week regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The NFL has modified its OT rules yet again, for the playoffs only: Both teams are assured of one possession in overtime, even if the first team with possession scores a touchdown. The Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Washington Football Team has been renamed to the Washington Commanders. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady briefly announced his retirement, only to rescind it, as he'll return to the Bucs. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger retired. This upcoming NFL season will have major changes on the broadcast booth front, as Joe Buck and Troy Aikman (the main NFL on Fox team) are headed to ABC/ESPN to be the A team on Monday Night Football; Michele Tafoya quit her Sunday Night Football on NBC sideline gig for politics and was replaced by former MNF sideline reporter Melissa Stark; Al Michaels left NBC for Amazon to do its Thursday Night Football package that is exclusive to Amazon Prime for those outside the participating teams' home markets, and he'll be paired up with Kirk Herbstreit; Mike Tirico takes over the SNF gig on a full-time basis; and the NFL Sunday Ticket's likely final season of being DirecTV exclusive. JGibson Posted May 10, 2022 Author Posted May 10, 2022 Tom Brady, once he retires, will join Fox Sports to be the lead analyst on NFL on Fox. Kate Feldman at NYDN: Quote The recently unretired Tom Brady already has his next job lined up. The seven-time Super Bowl champion who retired at the end of last season and then took it back almost immediately has been hired by Fox Sports as its lead analyst whenever his playing career is done for real, Fox Corporation executive chairman and CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced during an earnings call Tuesday. “It is entirely up to him when he chooses to retire and move into what will be an exciting television career,” Murdoch told investors, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “That is up to him to make that choice when he sees fit.” Brady is also expected to serve as an ambassador for Fox Sports, “particularly with respect to client and promotional initiatives,” Murdoch said.
JGibson Posted May 20, 2022 Author Posted May 20, 2022 Drew Brees left NBC Sports, meaning that his bid to potentially succeed Cris Collinsworth on SNF went up in smoke. Could Fox make a play for him?
JGibson Posted May 31, 2022 Author Posted May 31, 2022 Cardinals CB Jeff Gladney died in a car crash. NFL.com: Quote Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney died in a car accident early Monday morning in Dallas, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, per Gladney's agent. He was 25 years old. The cause of the crash and Gladney's death remain under investigation. [...] Gladney was a first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. The TCU product started 15 games his rookie season, collecting 81 total tackles, three passes defensed and one forced fumble. Gladney was released by the Vikings following an indictment for felony assault ahead of the 2021 season.

JGibson Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 What a ridiculous joke of a suspension! It should be more than 6 games for Deshaun Watson... more like a year. NFL.com: Quote Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been suspended six games for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy, disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson ruled on Monday. There will be no additional fine accompanying the suspension, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. In her 16-page report, which NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport obtained on Monday, Robinson wrote that the NFL successfully "carried its burden to prove, by a preponderance of the evidence, that Mr. Watson violated the (personal-conduct) policy" by engaging in "sexual assault; conduct that poses a genuine danger to the safety and well-being of another person; and conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity of the NFL."

JGibson Posted September 9, 2022 Author Posted September 9, 2022 The NFL season kicked off with the Bills beating the Rams.
JGibson Posted September 11, 2022 Author Posted September 11, 2022 Steelers walked away with a big 23-20 OT victory over the Bengals. Cincy missed an XP at the end of regulation and an FG in OT thanks to a backup long snapper, but Pittsburgh also missed on earlier in OT. TJ Watt may be out for awhile.
Miles. Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 What a mess of an opening weekend. The Cin/Pit game was pure comedy

pride4jc1222 Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 The whole Dak Prescott saga, with him missing practice due to his cleats hurting his ankle, showed to me that he is a diva and that he didn't put in the work on improving his craft during the summer. Dak looked totally unprepared out there last night. The Cowboys should trade Dak before he becomes a full blown distraction. If it's not the cleats, Dak will find something else to miss practice in the future. (But as an Eagles fan, I wouldn't mind if the Cowboys kept Dak and finished in the 6-10 win range every year - midround pick with no playoff success.)
Raver Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 A lot of upsets with these first games The broncos w/ Russel losing tonight against the seahawks is hilarious
