GreatestLoveofAll Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) I've always been curious on this and me being a wannabe chart expert decided what better way to spend my noneventful weekend then going through old chart archives So here is the list I compiled. I will update it and will make it look better and more detailed or decorated as it goes on just in case anyone wants to use it as reference and whatever. Also, the cutoff was originally 8 weeks- two months (on average) whether consecutively or not is huge for any artist on either main Billboard chart. However, I lowered it to six weeks when I realized many woman didn't have extended runs on top and a month and a half on top is pretty good dominance as well. Even this list leaves out many 4 and 5 week leaders from Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, Madonna and Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer- and as far as I know those are the ONLY other women who will be left off from this list because of the six week cutoff without further ado: 21 (Adele)- 24 weeks (2011-12) The Bodyguard: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Whitney Houston)- 20 weeks (1992-93) Tapestry (Carole King)- 15 weeks (1971) Whitney Houston (Whitney Houston)- 14 weeks (1986) Jagged Little Pill (Alanis Morissette)- 12 weeks (1995-96) Whitney (Whitney Houston)- 11 weeks (1987) Mariah Carey (Mariah Carey)- 11 weeks (1991) Fearless (Taylor Swift)- 11 weeks (2008-09) 1989 (Taylor Swift)- 11 weeks (2014-15) The Singing Nun (Soeur Sourir, The Singing Nun)- 10 weeks (1963-64) Forever Your Girl (Paula Abdul)- 10 weeks (1989-90) 25 (Adele)- 10 weeks (2015-16) Pearl (Janis Joplin)- 9 weeks (1971) SOS (SZA)- 9 weeks (2022-23) Music Box (Mariah Carey)- 8 weeks (1993-94) folklore (Taylor Swift)- 8 weeks (2020) Red (Taylor Swift)- 7 weeks (2012-13) Bad Girls (Donna Summer)- 6 weeks (1979) Like A Prayer (Madonna)- 6 weeks (1989) I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (Sinead O’Connor)- 6 weeks (1990) janet. (Janet Jackson)- 6 weeks (1993) Daydream (Mariah Carey)- 6 weeks (1995-96) …Baby One More Time (Britney Spears)- 6 weeks (1999) I Dreamed A Dream (Susan Boyle)- 6 weeks (2009-10) Speak Now (Taylor Swift)- 6 weeks (2010-11) 30 (Adele)- 6 weeks (2021-22) Leaderboard Taylor Swift- 5 Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Adele- 3 Edited February 21, 2023 by GreatestLoveofAll adding

GraceRandolph Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 (edited) Taylor really is in a league of her own tbh. She just totally captures the zeitgeist of American female pop music in the 21st century so far. Edited April 17, 2022 by GraceRandolph
GraceRandolph Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 What makes Taylor so successful? I get that she has good music, but what took her over the edge?

Dingdong123 Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 What’s truly astonishing for Taylor is her consistency throughout the years in both the critical and commercial department, she’s just the most consistent female artist PERIOD.

Yes million of sales and billion of streams thanks only to fans. Considering she is the biggest artist debuted this century and her strike as 1-2-2 most consumed artist 2019-2021 I guess swifties are bigger than GP

Are Swifties not part of the GP now? It's not her fault that she happens to draw in more fans in the form of the GP. Not the drag you thought it was.
