The violent crime rate in Chicago isn’t even top 50 in the US and all the murders are gang related violence on the south side. North siders might deal with a mugging once in their life but are generally fine.

I live in NY as well and I agree.. Chicago is "nice" but so boring.

Most crime in Chicago, as in cities like Detroit is all gang related. Most hoodlums aren't going to shoot at a random person, unless your involved in the lifestyle the most you'll get is mugged at gun point or something.

That doesn't make it safe. But I understand, with the high crime rates in the US most Americans are desensitized to crime.

Not my point   Crime rate in Chicago is just overblown vs. other cities.

Was just there for a trip and it's pretty good. The subway into and out of Ohare is a bit of a mess but otherwise Chicago gave me NYC vibes, but cleaner and easy to get around

One of the best cities in the US. Clean, safe (except for south side), beautiful, good public transportation and most people are extremely nice
