Maggie Lindemann - 'SUCKERPUNCH'

She snapped with the new track! I lost interest in the era with the last 2 single releases, and the big gap between the lead single - second single. But this has drawn me back in. Hoping to pre order a vinyl later today

don't like this song that much either :doc: hope the album at least has one huge bop like Scissorhands

I like this new songs so far, but I don't love them like I instantly did for the EP songs.

I'm slightly disappointed.

I like the new songs but yeah, they're not close to Paranoia level of excellence :katie:

I know i'll enjoy the album but probably won't consider this better than the EP... but that would be hard anyways since Paranoia is a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 punch

The covers are cool

self sabotage > break me! > how could you do this to me? > she knows it > you’re not special

hcydttm is really enjoyable but i hate the feature, so annoying

self sabotage is one of her best songs

you’re not special is just boring but with 15 tracks a filler was expected

i wouldn’t say it’s better or worse than paranoia so far, on par imo

So far most of the songs feel like Paranoia outtakes and not in a good way.

Paranoia was pretty excellent, this feels lacking.

self sabotage is mid, i stanned it when i first got the album but it blends in. not a good single choice

if anyone wants i’ll do a track by track review!

Spoiler

intro (welcome in) - cute, reminds me of madison beer at first. piano & strings with some vocals harmonies that transitions into heavy drums that flow seamlessly into take me nowhere (?/10)

take me nowhere - my personal favorite on the album!! its about how she feels trapped. i wish maggie explored this area of the rock genre more, it reminds me of flyleaf. there’s very heavy guitars and a cute little bridge/outro moment. this will be a fan favorite (10/10)

casualty of your dreams - this song is fantastic. the chorus is HUGE and it sounds like an evolution from paranoia. i looooove the bridge… lyrics are also very relatable (“there’s no need for apologies cuz honestly f**k your honesty im done”) (10/10)

phases - i don’t like this song nnn. it sounds like a cheesy machine gun kelly song, the melody is juvenile and reminds me of Leah Kate. has some redeeming qualities but this is in my bottom 3 for sure (4/10)

i’m so lonely with you - crash and burn 3.0. it’s good though, i didn’t like it that much at first but it grew on me, the chorus is pretty big and the melody is strong. pretty sure she teased an instrumental of this on instagram singing different lyrics over it (8/10)

girl next door - i LOVE this song, i just wish it was longer (it’s 2:00) !! the verses are very ominous and eerie, reminds me of madison beer. then when the chorus/instrumental break hits there’s a HUGE build up with heavy guitars reminiscent of scissorhands but in a more tame way? this was one of my favorites on first listen. again, this song should’ve definitely been longer and a bridge + final chorus would make this song perfect (9/10)

we never even dated - reminds me of a 2000’s punk ballad like something by Plain White Tee’s. it’s really good, the lyrics are something that gay men will definitely relate to (i’ve had situations like this before and they HURT). starts off very stripped but then builds up until the song ends, so so cute and gets me in my feels every time (9/10)

novocaine - i don’t know why this song follows a ballad, it starts off with a bloodcurdling scream and then heavy guitars? verses are her typical trap drums with guitars, chorus is explosive and repetitive (“all my tears and all my pain take it away novocaine”). my only complaint is that i wish she used a stronger voice in the chorus, she sings in head voice and it doesn’t mesh well with the heaviness (8/10)

hear me out - she teased a snippet of the chorus and the bridge. definitely one of the stronger songs, i wish the verses were less trap though ? this will probably be another fan favorite (9/10)

cages - i’m not gonna sugarcoat this, this song is BAD. it’s extremelyyyy juvenile. (“lions aren’t meant for cages let me live my life”) the verses are like chanty and although i do bop to it sometimes i just find it to be a weak song. the chorus is cute tho. it reminds me of an Avril Lavigne song off of Love Sux (same with Phases) (3/10)

overall I found paranoia to be much better than this. there were less duds and you could tell she was experimenting, this just felt like she was trying to make a pop punk record (minus take me nowhere & a few other songs). i would say that the singles are definitely the weaker songs on the album, i don’t get why casualty of your dreams is not planned to be a single because it f**king slaps.

It’s not a bad album at all but those who are expecting paranoia 2.0 will be very disappointed

Now I understand why I'm feeling disappointed so far with this new album.

But that track where she channels her inner Flyleaf is making me very excited!!!!
