I'm so glad I'm not the only one who found the Star Lord and Gamora stuff super annoying :rip:

I actually found it really problematic how assertive he was in basically forcing her to be in love with him :doc:

he was giving incel tbh

The movie is pretty meh even my Chinese friends who often ate tf up Marvel movies don't like it. But Chris Pratt is hawt and I can't help myself I'm sorry to my lord and savior Anna Farris :hoetenks:. The opening with Creeps is so cringey, the only one good time that song is used is during You season 2 trailer thats it.

I didn't notice any weak CGI there at all. :doc:

As a MCU hater this was great. Maybe I'm biased because Guardians are my favorite MCU movies, but the emotion and story here was great. Many scenes where tears welled up :clap3:

Not gonna Lie, I don’t know how Marvel will top this until the Next Avengers movie. They better have perfect scripts and action in Captain America 4 & Thunderbolts to even compete😭😆 (But The Marvels is coming to show out🤭)

Spoiler

One my 2nd viewing tonight. And yeah Marvel was clever to keep the OG guardians alive, but in different corners of the MCU. This way we can see them pop up in other projects if the actors want to. I know Drax is probably never coming back tho, cuz Batista is tired of superhero roles. But Star-Lord is definitely returning in Kang Dynasty. I hope Mantis & Nebula show up again.

Yeah, the true Friday didn't seem to perform better than AntMan 3 surprisingly. I'm betting on Saturday and Sunday creating a bit of a gap though, the WOM has to kick in, hopefully? Or maybe the MCU is in total fanbase-driven mode now. Nonetheless, Vol. 2 adjusted for inflation would be over $180M debut. It's really a sizable drop and clear indication of fatigue.

Let's hope the good WOM will crossover out of just the fanbase and into the GP as well. A final domestic total under $300M wouldn't be cute at all.

It needs to cross 300m domestic minimum, anything under that is a huge red flag for marvel.

I’m not worried about global numbers it should be strong but domestically wowzers

It had the story and the emotion which really hit home.

This was so much better than the dumpster fire that was Quantumania.

Overall thoughts:

Loved the movie!

  • I really hope this reinvigorates passion for the MCU. I'm a bit biased since I've always loved GOTG and they're the Marvel heroes I feel most personally connected with (I even read the comics in anticipation for the movies), but this movie was so good. :jonny:
  • I think this movie balanced humor and maturity so well.
  • Those scenes with Rocket Raccoon were really emotional, the film actually had me thinking a lot about animal cruelty after watching it.
  • I really love how they wrapped up Nebula's arc :heart2: easily one of my favorite Marvel characters
  • The way Star Lord acted toward Gamora at the beginning was very childish but I think they resolved it well in the end. I'm glad that they didn't end up in a romantic relationship since I always wanted Star Lord and Gamora to have a platonic relationship in the first place.
  • Star Lord's arc felt very repetitive of Thor's (grief and finding oneself), but I don't mind this too much. Star Lord always struggled to connect to his "human side" so having him move back in with his family on Earth felt like a good way to resolve this arc.
  • The pacing of the movie fell off a little bit after Rocket was revived but it picked up again at the ending.
  • I was expecting Adam Warlock to be in the movie more but I'm excited to see what they do with him in the future. Also I find his shirtless scenes so hot for some reason. :jonny:

Just saw it, very good ngl, solid 9/10, and I’ve never been a huge fan of the Guardians :clap3:

more thoughts:

Spoiler

The good:

  • Amazing CGI, only behind IW, Endgame and Eternals, at least for me.
  • Almost all of the jokes landed and were well executed, the one where everyone tells Peter that they heard everything he said to Gamorw because of the “shared line” was hilarious.
  • Good villain and amazing casting.
  • Loved most of the characters’ endings and their development.
  • The action scenes were amazing, like everyone said, the hallway scene will be peak Guardians and probable up there as one of the MCU’s best scenes.
  • The movie feels like it has heart to it and something to say, very emotional.
  • Loved Nebula, Rocket, Groot, and Mantis.

The bad:

  • The High Revolutionary needed one more big scene in which they either reveal some more of his backstory/intentions.
  • I waited the whole movie waiting for Rocket to beat the **** up off the High Revolutionary but his actual face off was underwhelming.
  • Adam Warlock was def wasted or watered down, I feel like they only put him because he was already teased in Vol 2. I genuinely thought that after his Mother’s dead he’d finally surprise me.
  • The backstory for Rocket was so well done, however there were a few times where the cut to them and the next scene in the present was so abrupt, and then an ok joke sort of “ruins” that feeling.
  • I didn’t buy for a second that ending with Gamora being so “happy”, it seemed kinda forced. Also, I might be wrong but I think there’s a plot hole about she calling the Ravagers and then sending them their location but then none of that led to anything, or did it?
  • Star Lord almost dying was unnecessary.
  • You could just tell Dave Bautista did not want to be there. Also, I hate how dumb they make Drax, and the whole “born to be a dad” thing was corny.

Overall: like I said a 9/10, definitely top 10 MCU, would need a re-watch to have stronger thoughts.
