Gossip_Boy Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 $800M is more than likely now. Fast X is coming out next week but it’s allegedly terrible and I don’t think it’s going to hurt Guardians much beyond the fact that’ll lose some of its PLFs.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 $500M in 1 week Fans satisfied and General Audiences give it a A Cinema Score. Rocket Racoon’s Impact

I hope it outgrosses Guardians 2! This movie would have probably grossed $1B if it had been released right after No Way Home: No Way Home -> Guardians 3 -> MoM -> BP Imagine the slyage .
Siberian Siren Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 Superhero fatigue isn't real. You just have to make a good superhero film. The word-of-mouth surely is carrying this one, and rightfully so.
UnusualBoy Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 I loved this and cried like 3 times during it, especially in the Rocket scenes. Happy to see this doing great!

Oh yeah, this would have been doing $1.1-1.2B if it wasn't for fatigue, which is very much real. Not sure how people are jumping to the conclusion that it doesn't exist because the finale of the GOTG trilogy is doing $800M+ (Which will still likely end up being the lowest ticket sales of the trilogy because of inflation and ticket price increases) The crazy WOM on this thing, in an ideal world would have allowed this to increase like $300-400M on GOTG Vol. 2. I remember all the pre-release predictions last year across the internet where everyone thought GOTG Vol 3 would be clearing $1B and challenging for biggest film of the year (I even had it at 450/500 split for 950M WW) Don't get me wrong, this is doing solid biz. Nothing extraordinary though, not in the slightest. It's good to see an MCU film actually have some semblance of staying power. Edited May 14, 2023 by BNF91
Nutitle Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 This is the marvel I missed #ThankYouJamesGunn Such an amazing movie, i'm glad this is smashing
Jotham Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 (edited) To be honest, I've never really understood the hate for the recent MCU movies. BP2 is my all-time favorite MCU movie, and this one was really good too. L&T had some cringey moments but overall I still enjoyed it and actually made me emotional in some parts. MOM fumbled Wanda's arc but everything else was nice, especially the cinematography. The only one I didn't really like was AM3 (but I still prefer it to several movies in earlier phases) and I never bothered watching Eternals. Edited May 14, 2023 by Jotham
slik Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 This was so good. One of the best Marvel films and one of the best Marvel villains. Surprisingly emotional and a perfect send-off.
Godly Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 I'll echo everyone else and say this was fantastic - action, humor, drama and character interactions all perfectly nailed Probably my favorite Marvel movie this side of Black Panther
WildAmerican Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 killer box office, just when i thought i was out, they pull me back in The Marvels will tank i fear tho
Gossip_Boy Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 Brilliant hold. This also proves that the whole superhero fatigue talk is total bullshit. If you make a good superhero movie people will go see it. If anything there’s bad superhero movies fatigue. Marvel used to get away with mid films due to their extreme popularity. Now that they’re not as dominant as they used to be they need to start putting some extra work.

I mean the fatigue talk was proven wrong with Wakanda Forever (which everyone seems to keep forgetting about). People just don't care to watch bad films hence why Quantumania flopped. Guardians has excellent WOM which is paying off.

The Batman was well received, and surprise surprise, a box office hit despite the DC brand being in the gutter currently. People just want to see good ****.
