kgeezy310 Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 honestly Andrea Riseborough would be such an interesting nominee given she has nowhere near the profile of other "surprise" nominees like Marion Cotillard for 'Two Days, One Night' or Penelope Cruz for 'Parallel Mothers'. Also her campaign started like 5 min ago, so that would be pretty huge to rally support like that at the 11th hour. i really do think preferential ranking is going to put her in, though. im calling Best Actress as this: Cate Blanchett - "TÁR" Viola Davis - "The Woman King" Danielle Deadwyler - "Till" Andrea Riseborough - "To Leslie" Michelle Yeoh - "Everything Everywhere All at Once" I think that Michelle Williams either ends up in Supporting or gets snubbed entirely. If she's in, I think it's either at Hong Chau or Stephanie Hsu's expense unfortunately. I'm leaning toward Hong Chau since she's been snubbed before and EEAAO is the Best Picture frontrunner. I think Best Supporting Actress looks like this: Angela Bassett - "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" Hong Chau - "The Whale" Kerry Condon - "The Banshees of Inisherin" Jamie Lee Curtis - "Everything Everywhere All at Once" Stephanie Hsu - "Everything Everywhere All at Once" OR Angela Bassett - "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" Kerry Condon - "The Banshees of Inisherin" Jamie Lee Curtis - "Everything Everywhere All at Once" Stephanie Hsu - "Everything Everywhere All at Once" Michelle Williams - "The Fabelmans"
Green Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 After seeing The Fabelmans I think Michelle Williams being Lead and Paul Dano Supporting doesn't make any sense. Or both are Lead or both are Supporting because both have the same relevance in the film. It's Sammy's history, he's the lead of the film (speaking of this I was thinking that the kid that plays Sammy Fabelman could snatch a surprise Best Actor nomination since there isn't a strong 5th contender for Best Actor.)
fridayteenage Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Ordinary people put the young lead in supporting and the parents in lead. The mom moore even won the lead globe with notably less screentime than williams has. Williams does have 10 more mins of screentime than dano.

D/X Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 The way the Academy disrespects young actors... Woody Norman, Jacob Tremblay, all robbed. Hell, even the kids from Belfast deserved more of a nom than any of the adult cast.
JasonGosling Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I think the studio has been campaigning for Michelle Williams as a lead role in The Fabelmans so I would count her out for the Best Supporting Actress category (though I agree with everyone here that she should have been campaigned for the Supporting Role). Hong Chau was snubbed by the Academy for her performance in Downsizing. I really hope she'll get in this time.

For Everything Everywhere All at Once, I actually prefer Stephanie's performance to Jamie. But I think A24 has been campaigning hard for Jamie in the Best Supporting category.

Coma Baby Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Brie Larson willfully stealing glory from a child, color me shocked.

hausofdave Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) apparent tidbits from the infamous anonymous AMPAS voting ballots: Spoiler Members really like Top Gun: Maverick and have it ranked very high, or at the top, of their ballots. No consensus as to whether this means Cruise is #5 for Actor or not A "prominent member" of the producer's branch "really didn't like" The Fabelmans. It has passionate voters but seems a bit divisive General consensus is that young voters love Everything Everywhere and old voters are mixed. A win may come down to what degree international voters show their support Not only did at least two voters vote for Michelle Williams in Supporting... but at least two also voted for Brendan Gleeson in Lead Regarding our favorite small film with a big heart: only one person mentioned To Leslie at all, and it wasn't a member of the acting branch https://variety.com/2023/awards/awards/oscars-voting-closes-academy-member-revelations-1235492501/ Edited January 18, 2023 by hausofdave

wesleywalrus Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Will be super interesting to see Best Actress noms. I think Blanchett, Yeoh and Deadwyler are the only locks & Davis, Williams, de Armas and Riseborough are fighting for 4 & 5. I'm playing it safe and just predicting Davis and Williams for now but I can totally see de Armas getting in. The Woman King was a very good film but I dont think Viola blew me away or anything. And Williams is just there. Plus, she could get supporting.
