McNulty Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 Foy and Buckley can't even get into the BAFTA Bye Bye Oscars

I think this will be the finals nominees, maybe The Women King get in instead of Babylon
Dark Miracles Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) Is anyone else just so over the whole pompousness of the movie industry? It's just too much. They are always so busy flinging an obscene amount of praise at each other's work with an endless summation of adjectives that it has completely lost all meaning and sheen. It's the same thing with the red carpets. Some of these actors take themselves way too seriously, it's almost scary. This isn't a knock on Cate BTW, I live for her and I'm 100% sure her performance is actually unflinching, shocking, riveting,.... But JLC bestowing them in such a manner does absolutely nothing to promote/validate that. It's one rehearsed, meaningless platitude after the other. I guess I'm just disillusioned with Hollyweird Edited January 6, 2023 by Dark Miracles
Kylizzle Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 To be fair to JLC, Cate gave a once-in-a-lifetime performance in TAR

I guess I'm just disillusioned with Hollyweird if there's someone who doesn't take herself way too seriously it's JLC tho her and Cate are besties they even arrived at that event together, that's prob the main reason for all the gushing and her speech actually seemed to be mostly light hearted: 2 legendary queens tbh edit: seems like Jamie was literally invited/hand picked by Cate to present her the award so.. the full ceremony speech is also on youtube if y'all want to watch, it's pretty nice Edited January 6, 2023 by okgo
Dark Miracles Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I mean it's not a knock on JLC either, she just does what so many of them do. It's the way you can tell these people had their thesaurus right next to them when preparing a speech and think they're doing something when they describe a performance with 5 different synonyms of riveting in a row It doesn't come across as very genuine is all
Donquizote Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 National Society Film Critics tomorrow. I want Tang Wei/Zar to win here, but I'm ready for Cate to sweep TRIFECTA twice

fridayteenage Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) per screentimecentral, onscreen at least 15% of the time: KO1 Armas 46%, Craig 33%, Evans 18% KO2 Craig 36%, Monae 33%, Norton 26%, Odom 20%, Hahn 19%, Hudson 18% Definitely more ensemble-y than the first. Some of this year’s contenders: Williams 35% (lead) [Palmer 35% (supporting)] Monae 33% (supporting) Davis slightly under 33% (lead) So Monae is borderline-lead but it’s not egregious. She does dominate the second half of the movie. It's basically a reverse-Williams experience, where Williams faded as the movie went on. Edited January 7, 2023 by fridayteenage
hausofdave Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 hopedicting a Top Gun sneak into SAG Ensemble next week
Digitalism Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Fabelmans didn't making it at the Bafta's short list means that movie is not winning anything. Thank god it was a mid movie that was only being praised because of it's director Also JLC is campaigning like crazy but she doesn't deserve anything. Once again proving that if you're a house hold name campaigning can get you a lot
Lovett Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I'm confused at the vitriol towards Jamie Lee Curtis. What's she done to warrant it? She was fantastic in EEAAO.

hausofdave Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 doesn’t also help that Curtis also has the experience of running a better Oscar campaign

hausofdave Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 another trifecta sweep for Legend Blanchett
fridayteenage Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) she tied for la for the Woody Allen. 40+ years in a row of white supremacy in NSFC Actress, keeping up their streak, we hate to see it ...There's never been a year where 2 asian actresses were nominated due to rampant Anti-Asian racism. Yeoh is a lock, Dolly seems likely. Hsu and Chau are maybes. So I wouldn't be surprised if just one of the 3 supportings made it in. Edited January 7, 2023 by fridayteenage
hausofdave Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Cate's second trifecta sweep in LEAD (and her third National Society of Film Critics award after also winning for I'm Not There in 2007)
luckythisway Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 This is definitely controversial but I wasn’t crazy about Hsu’s performance. Yeoh & Quan were the superstars. JLC was underutilized, but good.
