I feel like Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Williams and Cate Blanchett are pretty safe as far as a nomination is concerned, and then Margot Robbie, Danielle Deadwyler, Viola Davis and Olivia Colman are fighting for the last two spots in Best Actress.

Best Supporting Actress is still too much of a mess to make sense of :rip:

danielle deadwyler is a lock for 4th. guessing olivia colman as 5th just because the academy loves her but i'm not 100% sure with how panned empire of light is.

I don't want a tie.

Give Michelle ha oscar alone as Cate will in another one in the future anyway

:giraffe:

Same. It should be competitive and compelling. And then a choice is made.

still think Margot will get in the end at the expense of Deadwyler/Davis

Babylon will bomb at box office.

I dont think they will have extensive campaign for that movie.

The way Better Call Saul fans used to mock Kerry Condon for her acting and now she's the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress :skull:

Michelle Williams has more screentime by percentage than 75 supporting winners and 10 lead winners.

The supporting winners in at least a third of their films are overwhelmingly first (and usu only) time nominees with the SOLE exception being viola davis cuz she was aware of the history of racism in lead...

LEAD it is!

I haven't seen the film, but why early reviewers were saying Michelle did category fraud when she was placed in Lead then?

If BAFTA goes batshit insane again this year, I hope they thrust Vicky Krieps into Best Actress, preferably to white Michelle’s detriment. But they’ll probably just throw a nom to Olivia Coleman

Colman couldn't even score a BAFTA nomination for more critically acclaimed movies like The Lost Daughter and The Father :skull:

I don't think BAFTA will nominate her for that panned movie :bibliahh:

Just watched The Fabelmans.

Yes, White Michelle will get nominated :jonny5:

The fact that she can easily win if she went supporting :jonny5:

fabelmans' goal is to be ordinary people essentially.

Gabriel LaBelle - 1:26:48 (57.58%) vs. Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People) - 1:05:04 / 52.49%

Michelle Williams - 52:24 (34.76%) vs. Mary Tyler Moore (Ordinary People) - 32:46 / 26.44%

Paul Dano - 42:30 (28.19%) vs. Donald Sutherland - 36:44 / 29.64%

Judd Hirsch - 8:03 (5.34%) vs. Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People) - 18:23 / 14.83%

now that was real fraud. Hutton had about double the screentime of Moore yet he was supporting and she was lead.

Wow at Banshees and EEAAO snatching left and right these critics accolades, love to see it!

I think Fabelmans will win Best Picture.

It will rake up lots of #2 and #3 ballots since it's universally loved.

EEAAO is a divisive movie that will rake up lots of #1, but also will be place at last place in preferential ballots.

The Director category is a toss among Cameron, The Daniels and Spielberg, but I think The Daniels will take it.

:psyduck: you know that AMPAS is a conservative leaning voting body with lots of old white males championing other old white males. It’ll be more divisive than Fablemans, no matter their RT score :rip:

EEAAO is not divisive. :dies:

it's not a divisive movie but it'll for sure be a more divisive movie among AMPAS members than Fabelmans. and thus the likely scenario of preferential ballots favoring the latter, as @Donquizote said. god grief, just try to comprehend what others are writing.

one is a semi-autobiographical movie about one of our greatest/most celebrated filmmakers of all time, a family biopic capturing the "lOvE oF cInEmA" that screams Oscar bait

and the other one is a POC-led, abdsurdist sci-fi action drama with buttplugs and whatnot by a director pair on their second feature.

tell me which is going to be the more divisive movie

hint: no, its not the one with the higher RT critic-audience score :toofunny3:

disclosure: I'm an EEAAO stan and hope it will win, but lets not be delusional for once

"NO, WHITE MEN WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL JUST ACCEP IT!!!"

the Flop Bomb Mans will lose.

since the mid 80s, the only time someone got a 2nd best picture was eastwood, thanks to the astonishing feat of having back to back years of double acting wins.

This. And I'd argue that Parasite had a WAY bigger barrier to break with being an international film.

And we already know that the industry has been championing the film left and right and that it had fantastic reception at an AMPAS screening.

Nobody said they can’t win lmao. It’s just that there’s an obvious hurdle to overcome for EEAAO because of said reasons. They can - and I hope will - overcome it of course but news flash,  genre bias and racism still exist no matter the wins of Parasite and Moonlight. I swear y’all can’t contextualize what some people are getting at. :skull:
