kandicha Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 I feel like Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Williams and Cate Blanchett are pretty safe as far as a nomination is concerned, and then Margot Robbie, Danielle Deadwyler, Viola Davis and Olivia Colman are fighting for the last two spots in Best Actress. Best Supporting Actress is still too much of a mess to make sense of

hausofdave Posted December 17, 2022 Author Posted December 17, 2022 still think Margot will get in the end at the expense of Deadwyler/Davis
Donquizote Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Babylon will bomb at box office. I dont think they will have extensive campaign for that movie.
Riot Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 The way Better Call Saul fans used to mock Kerry Condon for her acting and now she's the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress

The supporting winners in at least a third of their films are overwhelmingly first (and usu only) time nominees with the SOLE exception being viola davis cuz she was aware of the history of racism in lead... LEAD it is! I haven't seen the film, but why early reviewers were saying Michelle did category fraud when she was placed in Lead then?
Dark Miracles Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 If BAFTA goes batshit insane again this year, I hope they thrust Vicky Krieps into Best Actress, preferably to white Michelle’s detriment. But they’ll probably just throw a nom to Olivia Coleman
Donquizote Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Colman couldn't even score a BAFTA nomination for more critically acclaimed movies like The Lost Daughter and The Father I don't think BAFTA will nominate her for that panned movie
Donquizote Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Just watched The Fabelmans. Yes, White Michelle will get nominated The fact that she can easily win if she went supporting
fridayteenage Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) fabelmans' goal is to be ordinary people essentially. Gabriel LaBelle - 1:26:48 (57.58%) vs. Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People) - 1:05:04 / 52.49% Michelle Williams - 52:24 (34.76%) vs. Mary Tyler Moore (Ordinary People) - 32:46 / 26.44% Paul Dano - 42:30 (28.19%) vs. Donald Sutherland - 36:44 / 29.64% Judd Hirsch - 8:03 (5.34%) vs. Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People) - 18:23 / 14.83% now that was real fraud. Hutton had about double the screentime of Moore yet he was supporting and she was lead. Edited December 17, 2022 by fridayteenage

Dark Phoenix Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 (edited) Wow at Banshees and EEAAO snatching left and right these critics accolades, love to see it! Edited December 18, 2022 by Dark Phoenix
Donquizote Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I think Fabelmans will win Best Picture. It will rake up lots of #2 and #3 ballots since it's universally loved. EEAAO is a divisive movie that will rake up lots of #1, but also will be place at last place in preferential ballots. The Director category is a toss among Cameron, The Daniels and Spielberg, but I think The Daniels will take it.
fridayteenage Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 RT: the spielbergs 91 critics/82 audience everymasterpiece everywhere all at once 95 critics/89 audience ah yes i can see where the loose memoir is universally beloved and the asian talentry is "divisive."

It’ll be more divisive than Fablemans, no matter their RT score

And I'd argue that Parasite had a WAY bigger barrier to break with being an international film. And we already know that the industry has been championing the film left and right and that it had fantastic reception at an AMPAS screening.

It’s just that there’s an obvious hurdle to overcome for EEAAO because of said reasons. They can - and I hope will - overcome it of course but news flash, genre bias and racism still exist no matter the wins of Parasite and Moonlight. I swear y’all can’t contextualize what some people are getting at.
