It's gonna end up being the acting win for the movie, and also the "poc actor who has been overlooked by the industry" narrative of the season over her. In a perfect world this would not be an issue and there would be room for both but... we all know Hollywood. If it was a weaker year for the category she could pull off, but with Cate being so strong... it's gonna be tough. Michelle’s narrative is stronger than his and Cate though, she could be the first woman of color to win since Halle 20 years ago and the first Asian woman ever. If they really like the film like audiences have then both can win, but for now I think Cate will probably squeak out a win.

Dark Miracles Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 The Globe noms feel...inconsequential. Except for Angela Bassett continuing to gain steam.
DONTYELLATME Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 not her being snubbed again after Boss B Itch

wesleywalrus Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I've had JLC 2nd on Gold Derby for the past 3 months It's blatantly obvious whats happening. It's Judi Dench over Caitriona Balfe 2.0 except JLC has the narrative. I'm shocked Cruise didn't get the nom. I still don't see FABELMANS winning.

I hope academy voters aren't foolish enough to overlook Michelle, and thumb their nose at history to hand Cate Blanchett a third Oscar. A total slap in the face. Especially when Tar straight up bombed and EEAO was a runaway success.

fridayteenage Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 a reminder that there were 0 acting noms for The Last Emperor Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Slumdog Millionaire Parasite. so it feels magical we even have the possibility of 3 asians nominated for Everything Everywhere.
Liafen Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Kinda wish Tár and EEAAO competed in different years; both Cate's and Michelle's wins would be among the best in the last 20-something years: Frances, Catex2, Michelle, Olivia...
Liafen Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Fun fact: Meryl going unnominated this year will make it her biggest gap (5 award ceremonies) without a nomination. And she's most likely extending it to 6. Her last bigger gap was between Postcards and Madison County, 4 seasons not being nominated between 1991 and 1994.
McNulty Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Ana de Armas got nominated 3 times today maybe she's really coming

kandicha Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Blonde got an even worse audience score (32%) than critics score (42%) on rottentomatoes so I don’t think Ana is coming.
Liafen Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Ana is not happening; not surprised Globes would nominate her performance but heavily doubt she's making the cut at the Oscars the line-up is probably already sealed, or at least up to 80 percent sealed - Blanchett, Yeoh, Deadwyler, Williams and Davis
fridayteenage Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) if i counted correctly 2022: 7 poc actors nominated 2021: 8 poc actors nominated 2020: 9 poc actors nominated Hmm, not great. WOC leads nominated for Best Picture nominees: Sounder Color Purple Precious The Help Beasts of the Southern Wild Roma The last 2 performers were ignored by most awards. Sidibe was in her debut, and the only theatrical debuts that won lead at least had prior stage roles; this would apply to Wallis/Aparicio as well. Sounder/Help were borderline supporting. Whoopi has neither minus; she had a one woman show and one previous screen credit, an ensemble piece I've never heard of with 73 votes on IMDB. Yeoh as a veteran actress who's the clear dominant lead of her film would be the strongest on paper to-date. Edited December 13, 2022 by fridayteenage
