I mean, look at the material.

She's working with Yorgos Lanthimos next. :jonny5:

Let me not even beging with how she was kind of nominated for the wrong film because she was the highlight of The Menu.

The fact that she didn’t even get nominated for Downsizing when, again, she was that movie’s saving grace…

GG + CC win in Song is a hard stat to beat.

RRR not winning would be an upset.

I loved it but EEAAO is certainly not the best film ever. Not even the best in Michelle's filmography. And it won't be the best Best Picture winner in the last five years either - but thats just because Parasite & ScarJoon Ho's cousin did THAT and Asian Excellence Chloé Zhao also swept recently

Aftersun was a heartbreaker, it's the first movie in a long time that made me tear. Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio were amazing, what a performance!

the movie SHOULD have been nominated for more Oscars

Paul Mescal is amazing but Frankie Corio also deserves the same praise, she's insanely good, especially considering her age. her portrayal is so genuine and authentic. in another perfect world, Aftersun would have gotten 7 nominations (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay, Editing, and Cinematography) and won most of them. :monkey:

Finally watched all the Best Picture nominees last night with Elvis.

1. Tar - haunting, intricate perfection front to back, a boiling atmosphere, Cate Blanchett delivers everything
2. The Banshees of Inisherin - cozy excellence with an otherworldy feeling, loved everything
-
3. The Fablemans - nostalgic and honest portrayal that can be very relatable at times
-
4. Women Talking - insightful and even funny sometimes despite the somber theme but a bit too drab visually
5. Top Gun: Maverick - thrilling action, tight editing though weak story
-
6. Everything Everywhere All At Once - emotional and strongly acted but the humor is too quirky, childish, like it is made for a Rick and Morty Reddit bros audience
7. Avatar: The Way of Water - stunning and emotional movie but too long and unfocused
8. Elvis - gorgeous, extravagant though overlong, the horrid performance by Tom Hanks is uncomfortable to watch
9. All Quiet on the Western Front - exciting at times but flimsy delivery, i couldn't connect to the main characters, 1917 felt like a much better movie
-
10. Triangle of Sadness - undeservingly placed in this category, nicely acted with Dolly delivering an excellent performance, pretty cinematography but I am confused how it can stand up to the rest

eeaao has acting + writing + directing going for it. it'd be the best bp winner this century, though parasite is great too.

nomadland has directing. some writing.

EW's brutally honest Academy panel calls The Whale 'grotesque,' says Top Gun: Maverick 'looks like a big beer commercial,' and one hopes he'll 'never have to watch Cate Blanchett act again.'

Why do the secret ballots always serve ATRL? :deadbanana4:

Does anyone feel like these secret ballots articles are made up? Not that it's so out of reach that people in the Academy are vile and clueless, but a lot of these read as if it was deliberately written to as messy and "entertaining" as possible. Really don't doubt it's just for clicks.

There's a discussion to be had about EEAAO being one of (if not the best) movie of this century

But I'm sure it will all get clarified when it wins Best Picture, alongside Michelle's historic and deserved win (+ KHQ's)!

I just love how talent sometimes prevails

BadLightDobermanpinscher-max-1mb.gif

Movie of the century indeed :clap3: it not winning would be criminal and people who say the humor was cheesy have to be simpleminded because humor was probably the least relevant and compelling element of the film.

Queer rage, the immigrant experience, depression/anxiety are all themes that resonate so much more powerfully than the “humor” did. How much you laughed should be an afterthought to the central message and if you didn’t “get” the message then I guess it wasn’t for you.

Humor was just bonus charm not something this film was supposed to emphasize, but I guess if you didn’t connect with the main messages then your mind likely gravitated towards humor to not have to think.

I'm taking all of these "secret ballots" with a grain of salt, even the ones "revealing" who they voted for. 9 out of 10 times Anonymous secret ballots always end up unreliable and almost never reflect who ends up winning in the end, just like those secret Grammy voters. A load of crock.

They’re only a load of crock if you think they’re a representative sample of the academy instead of realizing what it is you’re reading…

EYE realize they aren't a representative of the Academy, but a lot of people think they are and use them as proof to spin a narrative on what the Academy favors, that's why EYE said EYE take them with a grain of salt.
