Blade Runner Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 (edited) I can't believe some people are that f+cking DUMB to not understand basic conversations about the Academy eternal bias against POC. "Maybe POC should be giving better performances" isn't the argument you think it is, you dumb b+tch. Ugh. So tired. Edited March 9, 2023 by Blade Runner
Liafen Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 What do you think, what would it take for a movie to win the most Oscars possible, which is capped at 16? (Well, 17, if we count the International Category - but I doubt that a sweep with technicals/score/song etc could happen with a foreign language movie)

hausofdave Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Quote Here we have a publicist who hasn’t seen “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” but might vote for Angela Bassett, dings Cate Blanchett for being unlikable as Lydia Tar, and thinks Brendan Fraser was “way too fat” in “The Whale.” https://www.indiewire.com/2023/03/anonymous-oscar-ballot-publicist-black-panther-wakanda-forever-1234810585/
TROPICUM Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 The people actively rooting for Michelle's loss all season long exposing themselves as unconfident racists? Who could've guessed!
Donquizote Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 I will root for one of the best performances of all time. NYFCC, NSFC, LAFC, and Venice agree with me. There's an urgency to reward Legend Cate for her third Oscar for one of the best performances of all time in TAR. Hoping for Cate to pull through this Sunday. Also hoping that AMPAS members to finally reward Field the Best Director award.
LastKiss Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Academy award winner Michelle Yeoh has a ring to it

Who could've guessed! it's better than those fake people online who've been like "oh i support both cate AND michelle, aren't i great?!" and now they found an excuse to be like "booo yellow peril! dragon lady! white is right!"

wesleywalrus Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 If Frances McDormand has 3 acting awards, Cate should have at least 4
wesleywalrus Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 So who do we think will win Best Original Song? It's an honor just to be nominated.

Donquizote Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Hoping for many surprises and EEAAO go home with 1 award only.
400Iux Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Cate did amazing but why was TÁR not a good movie very very basic commentary at its core, i never gave a single **** the whole time, and im tired of this pandemic of long ass movies that cant justify their runtime.
Liafen Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Michelle’s luck is that unfortunate slip happened just before voting closed. If it were to happen 2-4 days prior, it would’ve blown up in her face I fear

Yes the prosthetics were a mess but she absolutely earned that Oscar.

Green Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 This is probably the first time since I've been following the Oscars that we have 3 acting categories without any locks That's the best thing about precursor awards not going full sheep mode.

Even Supporting Actor wasn’t a full sweep with the BAFTA loss, interesting year.

It was so static, it never left the barn. After half an hour, I was bored. It didn’t move, it was like a play. The themes we all know, it’s been covered endlessly. It’s not my favorite. The actors were terrific, I can’t take anything away from them. It’s what they were saying, the issues they were raising. It was torture for me. Women standing up to abuse being torture for them.
Eóghan Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Top Gun Maverick Entertaining but overrated. 7/10 Woman Talking A chore. Tedious and repetitive but necessary. 4/10 Banshees of Inisherin A flawless and subtle dark comedy. 9/10 Triangle of Sadness A blast. Really ingenious and fun. 8/10 The Fablemans Masterful and touching but predictable. 7.5/10 Everything, Everywhere, All At Once Masterpiece. Revolutionary. 10/10 All Quiet on the Western Front Gripping but dreary and conventional. 7/10 Avatar The Way of Water Immersive journey. Emotional and spiritual at times. 8/10 Tàr Fascinating but too long. 7,5/10 Elvis Feverish and pretty but without a soul. 6.5/10
