HSU underrated. The way supporting should only be between her and Bassett.

Yeoh's post was actually of the entire article that continually praised Blanchett in context, people just cherry picked one section of the post. Certain stans getting desperate it seems.

Michelle Yeoh winning would be like Uma Thurman winning for Kill Bill Vol. 2. Deserves a nomination? Sure. Winning? :doc:

At the end of the day, it's an action drama. The directing and the writing deserve more than the cast, even though the second act is a bit sluggish.

That part of the point though, being able to discern the actor's individual work from the material.

I think Blanchett is great in Tar and would be a stellar winner, but it's also a role that hands her every opportunity on a platter. One of the most common things said around Venice was that we finally got a female part on par with DDL in There Will Be Blood. And that's moreso Todd than it is her. I don't think it's unfair to say that the material she got aligns very heavily with what a lot of non-actors perceive as being the platonic ideal of acting as an artform. A lot of praise is for the writing of the role itself.

Hoping for Field to pull Bong Joon Ho and snatch that Director.

At least I don't put stan goggle and blindly want someone to win just because I stan for that celeb.

Quan should win in Supporting category because he's simply the best in that category.

Yeoh doesn't deserve that.

She's 4th behind Blanchett, Ana, and Riseborough.

Girl.

This is somehow the most problematic thing i've read this week on ATRL :chick2:

I think it's a very important and fascinating subject but badly approached and quite caricatural. The way they kept arguing among each other to the point where everything lost it's meaning. It was like watching a loop.

At one point in the movie a teenage girl says word for word: "this is very very boring" and I'm like ok at least the script writers are very self-aware. I like it.

The director was also a wrong choice, another skilled director could've brought some ingenious style to elevate the substance of the movie but Sarah said no I will give you NOTHING, just some cheap ass grey filter.

I need you to leave the modern Twelve Angry Men alone. The future Adapted Screenplay winner stays winning

I can't believe you had the audacity to put a masterpiece, a game-changing movie like 12 Angry Men in the same thought as this.

A few years ago when I was a substitute teacher I actually showed this movie to 6th graders (11-12years old) so they could learn a bit about the jury system and it was the first time they ever a saw a black and white movie. They were glued to the screen from beginning to end. It's literally the definition of a "universal movie". If I showed them WT, they'd probably leave the class and accept detention with open arms. :skull:

Not when Hong Chau devoured both, combined

WHAT ????? why ? The movie's not even long. :bloo:

I dunno. I have a good fragmented memory like that. It doesn't affect my enjoyment. I can pause midsentence and then resume the next day without any problems. A movie has to be really really good for me to watch it in one go, which rarely happens.

What I'm getting from this is people have no shame in admitting they want an all white actor sweep :coffee2: subtle racism and tokenism won't cover up some of y'all's prejudices

just b/c you’re a POC doesn’t automatically equate to giving the best and most superior performance out of the entire nominees

When did I say being a POC equates to giving the most superior performance :giraffe:  my point is some people are getting brave with showing their prejudices, especially when it comes to the Best Actress race

It's kind of sad to see Yeoh going on that direction. It's probably not mean spirited but it does give big bitter vibes. No need to do that when your work should speak for yourself. Def reminds me of The Hurt Locker drama.

Tbh I'm really getting annoyed by the toxic ambiance about that movie, which I really liked, but it has made me want them to win nothing at this point. It's an original movie (which Hollywood needs the most right now IMO) but it's not a masterpiece either. It stands out because big studios have given up on mid-range film, but in any regular year of the 90s or 00s, that movie would have been one among other great contenders.

What should be noted is how the Academy has expended their voting pool abroad. Everything did not make an impact oustide as it did domestically. So as much as the Guilds seem to have strongly support it, I am not sure international pool of the voting branches would support it as much.

I just realized all the best actress nominees this year have dipped their toes in a bit of controversy one way or another :clap3:

And yes Ana de Armas accepting that disgraceful script is a controversy in itself.

Jenny is good but barely in the movie, in what universe is her performance better than Michelle's? :rip: It's giving being a contrarian for the sake of it

Your hatred for De.Yeoh all award season is very concerning. Lol.

Thanks god its was Cate in the race. Imagine if it was Ms Kate, how insufferable you could be.

Or maybe people just like her the best, seeing as she's overtaken Cate in the critic's groups
