It's easy to judge from the outside but none of us have experienced what Yeoh has been through especially as she's faced an intersection of racism, misogyny and ageism, so I'm a bit wary of people saying she shouldn't speak on it and turning against her. She hasn't had a voice in years and finally is in the limelight, she has a lot of feelings and thoughts to express, not just from this film, but whatever she's had to go through her whole career. I'm sure there's a lot of (rightful) pent up anger and frustration there.

We love it when it happened to Colman, Hopkins, and McDormand. The BEST PERFORMANCE always wins at the end.

NOT "the best performance always wins" when Viola was in the race against Frances (which did really well but nothing compared to the masterclass Ms. Davis gave us in that awful dud of a movie.)

I'd also say Glenn was the most deserving winner for her last 2 nominations and lost each time.

It's NOT about the best performance. Unfortunately.

Yawn

Michelle is the first fully Asian woman to ever be nominated for Best Actress (a tragic stat) she has a right to campaign how she feels for the win when she knows she could lose to a white actress who already has 2 Oscars. :coffee2:

She could have posted about being the first asian actress and 2nd non-white actress without bringing Cate's name.

Yeoh shouldn't be venting her frustration towards Blanchett, that was totally an unnecessary call bringing up her name at all, practically showing the lack of respect towards her just a few days after that showy lovey pose w her on the red carpet at the Spirit Awards. what a complete tasteless move towards her

The article just mentioned Cate because she's the other frontrunner. I think it's more clear if you read the whole article, particularly the part that comes after the Cate bit:

Quote

It’s also important to remember that acting Oscars are very rarely, if ever, won based on a performance alone. It always has more to do with the narrative: the campaign the actor has run; the story they’ve told about themselves in the interviews they’ve given; whether or not they’re considered to be overdue; and how their film has captured the zeitgeist better than its competitors. Beyond that, it depends on who the members of the Academy – still an overwhelmingly white voting body – relate to, see themselves reflected in and wish to anoint as a shining symbol of the industry at that particular point in time. If prizes were handed out purely on merit, it’s difficult to believe that only one non-white woman would have taken home the Best Actress Oscar in 94 years, especially considering that people of colour have been in front of the camera practically since the inception of moviemaking.

What an unfortunate thing to do, and just hours before voting closes; not only blasts Cate (only for her talent) but also undermines the Awards per se saying that they not always celebrate talent and are manipulated.

It was not classy and well it could push the swing to the other side, also bashing other nominees as blonde ingenues wtf

I’m sure that it was not even Yeoh who did that but her PR team or Community manager but whatever it’s done.

Well she's only speaking the damn truth :ahh:

Y'all just hold this award ceremony to such high regards when it's just a full on corrupt hypocritical circle jerk extravaganza on full display.

We're here for the mess. We're here for the POC disruptors.

She was just posting the rest of the article, it’s messy sure but eh I don’t think it’s that bad.

It was probably some messy gay intern anyway :skull:

Just pay attention to the movie instead of chatting on here and give us your opinions afterwards sis :toofunny3:

Aftersun IS good. It's a strong film. Lead guy's performance is overrated tho (i say this after one watch) the director should have gotten over Spielberg's ass.

The post got deleted, she ****** up by posting that. The link to the article is still in her story though. A shame since Cate was nothing but supportive of her and Michelle really had a classy look this whole campaign.

mess that Yeoh deleted it...:lakitu:

doubt any votes were swayed. I'm sure winning SAG right as voting began helped her more than anything.

We love a messy queen. Make them cry, Dr. Yeoh.
