Konril Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 I just woke up... EEAAO you will always be famous!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
Hector Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 The way Supporting Actress is a clusterf&ck this year I have zero clue who will win this year. I feel confident Ke Huy will still win the Oscar and I'm glad Michelle & Brendan have a shot at the Oscar and Cate & Austin are no longer 100% locks and maybe down to 75-80%. Everything Everywhere will make an excellent Best Picture Winner too
wehan6 Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 the supp. actress race should've been between stephanie, hong and kerry. all three of them stomp on angela and jamie

It was a fine performance. “But she learned how to play the piano! And learned German!” Yeah and? Michelle, a 60-year-old woman, used not only her hands and face, but her entire body and every muscle fibre to give a performance worthy of all accolades. Martial arts are just as technical and impressive as learning the piano. Michelle has also been acting in two languages her entire career and managed to connect with audiences in two languages in the film, breaking down the subtitle barrier if box-office results were an indicator. Even with total body acting, and despite the film’s dynamism, Michelle‘s acting was always grounded. We were always with her. She deserves this. Well said. They way people talk about Blanchett's performance as it was something out of this world is laughable. I truly believe they're confusing a super well-written complicated woman with something else. Lydia Tár was a fascinating character, but the one getting the accolades should be Todd Field for writing that script/that person. Cate was amazing as usual, but Michelle Yeoh gave so much more. These narratives centered around white performers are so tired and so obvious. The Academy needs to do better. Edited February 27, 2023 by Blade Runner

For the record, I think Cate was sincerely great, but the writing does the heavy-lifting in crafting such a nuanced character. Blanchett gives a very theatrical, mannered performance that's flashy and accented. It works as a choice for the character, but it's not an especially subtle performance at all. Yeoh gave way more lived-in work.
Konril Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 None from the acting categories swept the televised precursors, Cate and Ke came close. What a race for that Oscar.

I haven't watched the TAR, but it always been about narrative as much as performance. This such of narrative simply can't be created around anyone and have same type of effect. The narrative is working because it is Cate, like I said earlier It is unfortunate, Yeoh one chance seemed to in midst of this.
chiliam Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 so so happy for EEAAO, the movie is so refreshing and love that award shows/ Oscars is showing their love for weird excellent. 1st Parasyte and now EEAAO. Those movies just stick with you, balance so weird between drama and comedy with unique plot. The Oscars better repeat this line up. Michele needs that Oscar more than Cate. It will be historical. Is the voting still on-going? Hope the SAG give Michele one last push.
est. in 90s Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Kinda love how SAG shook up the wins a bit unlike the others. It was getting stale and a bit predictable with duplicate wins at Globes, Emmys and Critics on both the television and film side. This was a nice change of pace.

Just remembered SAG is voted by fellow acting peers versus a voting body full of out-of-touch industry heads. That explains why all in all I prefer the SAG wins over the others. Feels less contrived.
Blade Runner Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 The one with the red hair is so hot, btw. Whew...

For film: globes and critics voters don’t vote at Oscar’s so it would be impossible for them to shake up the “race” anyway

It makes following award season more exciting imo. I still feel like Oscars Best Actress race could be a surprise win. We will see.
McNulty Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 (edited) WOW! SAG went completely rogue with their winners in both Movies and Television side Edited February 27, 2023 by McNulty
Liafen Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Seeing JLCs reception and speech… maybe Queen can walk away with it!
