Her performance was the most talked about all year and she did a fantastic job, plus she's an icon. Angela was robbed, however. I will say I think Best Actress win will not be as predictable this year as we thought. Angela has had MUCH better roles than this.
LastKiss Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 So for Oscars we got: Actor: Butler vs Fraiser Actress: Blanchet vs Yeoh SpA: Quan SpAs: Angela vs Condon vs Jamie
kendoll2001 Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 The fact that Actress, Actor and now Supporting Actress can go in different directions at the Oscars this year, bringing (for once) intrigue and excitement
its_britney_bitch Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 (edited) I have a few bets on the Oscars now, only £20 in total so if even one of these comes in I’ll make my money back. Here’s what I’ll win for each of them Michelle Yeoh - £22.50 The Fabelmans (BP) - £150 Spielberg - £34.80 Jamie Lee Curtis - £51.68 But that’s also mostly who I want to win so consider them all cursed Edited February 27, 2023 by its_britney_bitch

zoldyck Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Supporting actor and picture seemed locked.

Blade Runner Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 LOOVEEE fighting the Blanchett stans. Michelle Yeoh will prevail and she will make history.

LuneMon Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Thank god a different/interesting movie is leading the race for once. I hope they sweep the Oscars too. I'm so happy for Michelle!
zoldyck Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 (edited) I wonder if Angela and JLC will hurt each other chances, I don't find either of those roles deserving, I feel like both are being pushed by peers for their overall careers. Angela having 2/3 more scenes would have sealed the deal. She also has disadvantage of being part of Marvel movie, hate towards marvel movie is also high right now. JLC would have always been inferior performance to Hsu. Condon clearly had turf advantage at BAFTA with Banshees, so she isn't locked for it either. Its literally any one game Edited February 27, 2023 by zoldyck
Blade Runner Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 If Michelle Yeoh doesn't win, I doubt another WOC will take this in the near future. I mean, what else do they need? They have the narrative, the performance, the Best Picture winner, the cultural moment. It should be her and if it doesn't happen, it'll be a bad look. Let's go!
period sis Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Is Mother Mitski performing at the Oscars? I know the Son Lux group will obviously be there

I don't know, I feel like if Yeoh was in race last year, it would have been sweep. Its just seem unlucky she ended up being against someone who is considered one of the all time best giving their best performance.

We know this because just 1 of 78 winners is a non-white performer. WOC always have to overcome so much and it's embarrassing. Best Actress is the worst acting category and it needs to stop. This I hate how Hong Chau has been ignored but I feel like she did not campaign. JLC, Brendan, Jennifer and Michelle felt like veteran winners; but it was so cute to see her go up and give her speech. The way Fabelmans, Banshes and Women Talking went with zero awards. Also I felt second hand embarrassment with the level of clapping/screaming from the audience, when JLC won she got the biggest noise when they announced the nominees, again with Best Actress and when they said Ana De Armas it was like one slow clap then they crazy for Michelle and Cate; also for Best Actor I felt like the 5 got a regular volume but it was Fraser.

Its just seem unlucky she ended up being against someone who is considered one of the all time best giving their best performance. That’s just a narrative that their camp created and everyone ran away with. It was a fine performance. “But she learned how to play the piano! And learned German!” Yeah and? Michelle, a 60-year-old woman, used not only her hands and face, but her entire body and every muscle fibre to give a performance worthy of all accolades. Martial arts are just as technical and impressive as learning the piano. Michelle has also been acting in two languages her entire career and managed to connect with audiences in two languages in the film, breaking down the subtitle barrier if box-office results were an indicator. Even with total body acting, and despite the film’s dynamism, Michelle‘s acting was always grounded. We were always with her. She deserves this.
