95th Academy Awards

BAFTA is an afterthought. And it doesn’t matter if they trying to predict Oscar like usual or weirdly different (like this year).

They can only make difference in close races.

I still think Butler and Blanchett are winning even if they losing SAG (doubt they will though). Ke Huy Quan and Bassett winning both.

Didn’t the academy diversify their voting body a few years back? You’re saying that’s false?

Cate Blandchett did nothing. Tar is insufferable.

White ppl here will celebrate and pretend they don't love white supremacy 🧐

It’s sad because a WOC has never been in a stronger position to win Best Actress, if she loses to an actress winning her 3rd it will be very telling.

The next WOC to win will probably be Zendaya if Yeoh loses, a pretty biracial woman with a white male love interest I’m sure, just like Halle. I can already see it :skull:

The Academy diversifying its voting body backfired two years ago when Hopkins beat Boseman and Frances won her third, those european and asians new voters don't care about narratives or how overdue an actor is, they're out of touch of what is going on in Hollywood, they vote fair and square. That's why they reduced the number of new members since that year from almost 1000 to less than 400 new members per year.

Viola has lost to actresses getting their third twice. I don't put anything past AMPAS.

EEAAO's inability to do even frankly decent with these big international voting bodies might not sit well for its BP path, on the other hand both BA races are beyond locked atp, ironically leaving BSA (originally the two locked acting categories) fields somewhat in a 2/3 way race, w S.Actor having more plausibility for Quan

I don't disagree but it's not like the major international awards have built up a clear alternative. Banshees was unable to win BP at BAFTA, All Quiet is missing from every major American guild going forward and would have to sustain its momentum solely from BAFTA, and any chance Tár had is presumably dead. AACTA went completely rogue with a BP winner that clearly isn't repeating.

If anything, the international BP vote is split whereas the American guilds have been (up to now) rallying behind EEAAO. Wins at DGA, Art Decorators, Make Up, Set Decorators, and very likely WGA and SAG Ensemble. Atp PGA would probably award it too given that they almost always go for either what's peaking late (All Quiet isn't nominated there) or has strong and steady momentum (EEAAO at the Anerican guilds).

And Quan is still an easy lock. In terms of overall wins this season, he's even stronger than Blanchett.

Keoghan isn't winning the Oscar unless Banshees is stomping it's a way to a BP win, which is looking less and less likely. BAFTA was his big award of the season and good for him.

Does anyone know exactly what happened to Sasha Stone?

Volpi, GG, NYFCC, LAFCA, NSFC, LFCC, BAFTA, CC, AACTA… :jonny5: Impeccable & untouchable

it'd help EEAAO more had BP been decisive through a straight vote, but w a preferential its in the possibility of realm for there to easily be a spoiler even if theres no clear alternative. the slightest amount of high low rankings can easily offset its placement

Wait not PGA being tomorrow :rip:

She went from being an SJW'd liberal to now being a Trump sympathizer obsessed with Top Gun 2 winning Best Picture so the Oscars can be saved. :skull:

It's been years that she came out as Trumpist and Republican, I don't really know the reasons but probably she has always been like that and the SJW was just an act to fit initially since a lot of awards pundits are gay.

I still haven’t seen the most recent Netflix adaption but the 1930s All Quiet on the Western Front is one of my all-time favourites and my pick for the best anti-war film of all time. It’s held up ridiculously well — maybe my favourite Best Picture winner too.

And honestly considering how lusty some are for war escalation in Europe right now, I don’t begrudge it striking out at BAFTAs, especially as a German language film.

Why are people acting like AQOTWF is like Come and See or something? It's a fine war movie but it's not even close to being the most intense or brutal.

Thinking Quan/Bassett/Butler/Yeoh/EEAAO will win at SAG this weekend.

Hong Chau deserves Oscar. If not her, then Stephanie Hsu.

After watching The Whale, I'm thinking Hong Chau and Kerry give the best supporting performance last year.

I won't be mad if either one of them wins.

And Sadie Sink needed the Razzie.
