This Netflix remake winning Best Picture when the likes of Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan and Hacksaw Ridge didn't, would be a bit silly :toofunny3:

I can't believe Austin Butler is actually happening for BA :rip: what a tragedy

AQOTWF overperforming at the oscar shortlist was the turning point for Netflix to focus on that film. Putting all that campaign on Glass Onion at the beginning was a waste. Watch Netflix make more war films from now on. :toofunny3:

Netflix did great with The Liberator

Nnnnn this :rip:

He definitely wasn't bad but nothing about that performance was win-worthy imo :rip:

I don't think BAFTAs will align with Oscars closely this year at all.

roma

3 billboards

la la land

revenant

boyhood

Only nomadland survived their curse.

the country of brexit and megxit serving big whitesupremacy energy

Yeah it's unfortunate. I like both Barry and Cate as winners separately but snubbing both EEAAO performances is insane. And All Quiet BP is just ridiculous.

just when POCs are finally having their big year this time, BAFTA comes midway giving absolutely everything they possibly can to prevent it

This is crazy nnnn :deadbanana2:

BAFTA happened before SAG awards in first time in years (or ever?) and they use this opportunity to push for Butler.

Yikes.

Blanchett is not losing SAG

Except Michelle was and still is the favourite for SAG

They are completely different voting bodies when it comes to awarding populist movies and POC. Viola has won 2 SAGs for Best Actress yet lost BAFTA both times.

Plus Lupita, Denzel (never even nominated), Chadwick, etc.

Cate was always the favourite for BAFTA, she is absolutely not a lock at SAG but you keep thinking she is.

The fact that he's not even their messiest choice for a winner this year is the GAG of it all.  :rip:

Chadwick was the frontrunner until Hopkins late surge, the BA ‘21 field was everywhere that year w all precursors going to different winners. there is a clearly a consensus for Blanchett, but the every so “first Asian American and POC since Berry” talk continues to blind you typical EEAAO stans

the way Legend Cate won every award everywhere all at once :jonny5: its screaming legend tingz. if she wins SAG (unlikely) then its officially over for Legend Yeoh.

I had an feeling they will give it to AQOTWF. Its typical straight bro www 1 (and www2) fetish fascination.

Blanchett with her Volpi, Globe, Critics and now BAFTA. The undoubted front runner.
It’s hardly even a race anymore. but ofc Yeoh stans are ready to start a war if you say that.

Bonus:

Blue Jasmine: LAFCA/NSFC/NYFCC/London/Critics Choice/Globes Drama/BAFTA/SAG/Oscar

TÁR:

LAFCA/NSFC/NYFCC/London/Critics Choice/Globes Drama/BAFTA/?/? + Volpi

The point remains that there have been many instances of BAFTA getting it wrong, until Blanchett wins SAG she isn’t a lock.

And yes the first Asian winner and first POC since Berry (20 damn years) is a big ******* narrative that should be taken into account when her completion is a white actress winning a THIRD Oscar in the whitest category.

But that’s not the only or main reason actually, Yeoh is in the likely Best Picture winner, her character is more sympathetic and contrary to what you think many people DO think her performance was better which is why while Blanchett has won the major critics awards, Yeoh has still won her fair share.

being in a BP frontrunner doesn’t automatically equate to a BA surge. its not Blanchett’s fault she gave an all time best performance thats been sweeping virtually everywhere. heck the fact Yeoh couldn’t even win Critics Choice was alarming. but again the typical heres how Yeoh can still win the Oscars

The fact that there's one POC in this photo and she's nearly cropped out on the right :deadbanana2:

Yes it’s very interesting how white actresses are the only ones who are ever undeniable and give “all time” great performances in lead while POCs should just sit back and settle for supporting. :coffee2:
