Dark Miracles Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 This Netflix remake winning Best Picture when the likes of Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan and Hacksaw Ridge didn't, would be a bit silly
Gui Blackout Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 I can't believe Austin Butler is actually happening for BA what a tragedy

Putting all that campaign on Glass Onion at the beginning was a waste. Watch Netflix make more war films from now on. Netflix did great with The Liberator

Kylizzle Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 I don't think BAFTAs will align with Oscars closely this year at all.

I like both Barry and Cate as winners separately but snubbing both EEAAO performances is insane. And All Quiet BP is just ridiculous. Edited February 19, 2023 by Kylizzle
hausofdave Posted February 19, 2023 Author Posted February 19, 2023 just when POCs are finally having their big year this time, BAFTA comes midway giving absolutely everything they possibly can to prevent it
Lovesong Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 BAFTA happened before SAG awards in first time in years (or ever?) and they use this opportunity to push for Butler. Yikes.

Blanchett is not losing SAG Except Michelle was and still is the favourite for SAG They are completely different voting bodies when it comes to awarding populist movies and POC. Viola has won 2 SAGs for Best Actress yet lost BAFTA both times. Plus Lupita, Denzel (never even nominated), Chadwick, etc. Cate was always the favourite for BAFTA, she is absolutely not a lock at SAG but you keep thinking she is.

family.guy123 Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 Wonder how the Daniels travelled to bafta

Chadwick was the frontrunner until Hopkins late surge, the BA ‘21 field was everywhere that year w all precursors going to different winners. there is a clearly a consensus for Blanchett, but the every so “first Asian American and POC since Berry” talk continues to blind you typical EEAAO stans
Liafen Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 the way Legend Cate won every award everywhere all at once its screaming legend tingz. if she wins SAG (unlikely) then its officially over for Legend Yeoh.
harwee Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 I had an feeling they will give it to AQOTWF. Its typical straight bro www 1 (and www2) fetish fascination.
hausofdave Posted February 19, 2023 Author Posted February 19, 2023 (edited) Blanchett with her Volpi, Globe, Critics and now BAFTA. The undoubted front runner. It’s hardly even a race anymore. but ofc Yeoh stans are ready to start a war if you say that. And yes the first Asian winner and first POC since Berry (20 damn years) is a big ******* narrative that should be taken into account when her completion is a white actress winning a THIRD Oscar in the whitest category. But that’s not the only or main reason actually, Yeoh is in the likely Best Picture winner, her character is more sympathetic and contrary to what you think many people DO think her performance was better which is why while Blanchett has won the major critics awards, Yeoh has still won her fair share.
