Imo it's the type of performance that gets thrown onto ballots at #4/5 out of goodwill.
Universo Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Women Talking 90 on MC & Brendan Fraser getting praise at Venice
Antisocialites Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Sarah Polley coming for screenplay win and director nom!
McNulty Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Empire of Light is getting a lot of praise, some are saying it's one of Olivia Colman's best performance ever. Micheal Ward is also getting a lot of love
Donquizote Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Colman is getting nominated again this year me thinks
State of Grace. Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Olivia getting career best reviews AGAIN She's definitely IN.
Denyy Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 All the Empire of Light reviews praising Olivia in the headlines... 4th nom in 5 years and 3rd consecutive nom coming, what a queen, what a queen
Broken Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Michelle Yeoh and Brendan are coming for all the awards .
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 IndieWire gave Empire of Light C- Colman's nomination is shaky. But I still believe Colman will somehow gets nominated because Hollywood loves her

But I still believe Colman will somehow gets nominated because Hollywood loves her Let's keep in mind that it's Ehrlich, the same dude who was trashing Dune from the moment it premiered in Venice last year. Olivia is safe for now and Ward is getting raves too so if Actor stays weak he could maybe get in. From the reviews it seems like the screenplay is Empire of Light's weakest part, so its chances for a BP nom are 50/50 imo.
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 IndieWire previous grade to Colman's movies: The Lost Daughter (A-) The Father (B+) The Favourite (A-)
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 TAR is still 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm sure Blanchett is locked for nomination. She's a legend with critically acclaimed movie.
Riot Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 What if Sadie Sink pulls a Florence Pugh and gets nominated for Best Supporting Actress
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Women Talking debuts with 90 on metacritic. Imagine if it won Best Picture and McDormand gets another Oscar for producing that movie
fridayteenage Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 abusive man brad pitt producing both abusive men movies she said and women talking makes me doubt either would win. plus there are some in hollywood who aren't on board with metoo in general.
Denyy Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Honestly the only movie (from what we know so far) I don't want to win BP is The Fabelmans. 150 minutes long and it sounds so boring from the description alone plus the first look is giving Belfast Still not sure what to do about Babylon. Also, taking an actor's reviews for previous movies is relevant how, exactly? IndieWire also just released an article with the headline "‘Empire of Light’ Cements Olivia Colman as a Perennial Oscar Contender", just saying.
Gui Blackout Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Looks like they'll probably go with Rooney as Lead and Claire/Jessie as Supporting. It should be a strong contender for the SAG cast
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 Hoping for Rooney to go lead. I still can't get over the fact that she was downgraded to Supporting for Carol.
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 (edited) Blanchett and Yeoh rise while Colman and Gerwig tumble after Venice and Telluride. I still think Colman will get nominated because she's very likeable among her peers. Heard she's a very humble and friendly person like Adele. At this rate, she'll get nominated for anything. Hoping for de Armas to surprise at Venice and gets Volpi. Awarding second Volpi to Blanchett will be so predictable. Rooney might sneak in Edited September 4, 2022 by Donquizote edit
Donquizote Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 wait. Empire of Light just debuted with 63 on Metacritic
fridayteenage Posted September 4, 2022 Posted September 4, 2022 mediocre oscar bait about hollywood celebrating itself is right up the industry's alley. I mean look at ryan murphy's hollywood: https://www.metacritic.com/tv/hollywood/season-1 Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Jim Parsons For playing: "Henry Willson". Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Dylan McDermott For playing: "Ernie". Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Jeremy Pope For playing: "Archie Coleman". Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Holland Taylor For playing: "Miss Kincaid".
