est. in 90s
I've had some trouble connecting with this album on first initial listens, but Family Tree came on my shuffle and just like that (Carrie Bradshaw narration) it all makes sense to me now

est. in 90s
Lana's influence on Family Tree Ethel's voice in this song is so reminiscent of her. It's almost uncanny.

CottageHore
Bumping this to say that this is hands down my favorite album this decade and my favorite debut album since Born To Die. I haven’t loved an album so deeply and sat with it for so long for nearly a decade. My current ranking that nobody asked for: 1. Sun Bleached Flies 2. Strangers 3. Western Nights 4. Family Tree 5. Hard Times 6. A House In Nebraska 7. Thoroughfare 8. American Teenager 9. Gibson Girl 10. Family Tree (Intro) 11. Ptolemea (it’s a great song but it’s not exactly a song I can have playing casually unless I want to summon a demon) 12. Televangelism 13. August Underground But literally every single track aside from the interludes is at least a 9/10, even putting Gibson and AT so low pains me. I’m surprised ATRL isn’t talking about Ethel more. She’s absolutely incredible. Edited August 12, 2022 by CottageHore

despy
(finally) just gave this album my first listen and tbh, i'm floored by it didn't expect to like it so much because the lengths of the songs made me think twice about giving this a listen but anyway- wanted to give it a chance and very glad i did. it's incredible from start to finish. definitely one of my favorite albums of the year. Hard Times -> Thoroughfare -> Gibson Girl -> Ptolemaea.. these back to back excellences those 4 + Strangers & AT (the tracks i've already heard) are my favorites here. love her voice! popstickle
Listened to this album for the first time at the weekend and am blown over by it. For a debut album, it’s astonishing how well she’s created a world and a feeling over the course of the album. I am floored by the storytelling and have had the album on repeat since. It makes me feel a type of way I cannot explain.
