Do you all think it still will be running at cinemas until Easter? End of April?

100%. Just not in IMAX probably.

A nice $5.3M 2nd Tuesday domestic (-35% from last week)

Early Wednesday numbers look like $4.3M, so $171.6M domestic running total.

3rd wknd could be between $26-30M

I have a question about the Spring Tears scene tho

  Hide contents

why did Chani slap Paul? did they fool Chani and the others to make them believe that he came back from the dead or it's just Chani being angry for the risk Paul took? I believe it's the latter tho, no?

Spoiler

The latter, and then some. She sees the path Paul is now headed down so this could also be a reaction to that. She also probably thought he wouldn't drink the Water of Life.

just watched this on IMAX and was GAGGED!!!! :WAP:

I didn't expect for Austin Butler to EAT THAT HARD! he was a highlight for me, and of course Rebecca Ferguson the queen.

Going for a third time this weekend (god bless AMC a list) and the theater is packed :jonny:

This may be delusional, but does this have any chance at $1 billion

Might be the first movie in years that I am actively planning to rewatch in cinemas, they did THAT. I do think this will have Avatar 2 legs (obviously not the same total), because people are just waiting to see this in imax or on big screens and imax is fully booked (at least in London) for a month from now

This is THE FIRST time I’ve ever gone to see a movie twice in theatres. This must have been what it was like for the Interstellar girlies back then :jonny4:

I don’t think so. The movie’s BO will cap out between $700M and $850M depending on the legs in the coming weeks.

Went for viewing #5 today (this time the entire family came along) they all were floored. I was hoping they'd enjoy it but they really did love it. Even one of my brothers and his girlfriend came to see it for the second time.

We had an hour long roundtable at my parent's house after.

I've made my whole family Dune stans

Dune has also retaken the #1 spot from Kung Fu Panda 4 for both Wednesday ($4.46M) and Thursday. Btw, it seems like Thursday not only didn't drop, but actually increased a bit from Wednesday. $4.5M early estimate, just -30% from last Thurs :jonny5:

If that holds then a $30M wknd is absolutely happening and could challenge KFP4 for #1 this weekend.

These are quite insane holds we are seeing (Thursday increase?!?! :deadbanana2:). Doubly so for a fan-driven sci-fi sequel.

Just watched it and I love it !

The narrative about religious cult and white savior are definitely disturbing for me, Chani (and Fremen tribes until they ate up the false prophecy) is the only root-able character out of this movie.

I've seen in Reddit that Chani in movie is different than in the book, where she is basically another blind follower of Paul. I wonder how Denis will handle this divergence, will Chani become a new agent of rebellion against the imperial ?

So I'm thinking a $30.8M domestic wknd and $53M OS. ($42.5M holdover mkts/$8.9M China/$2.3M Japan).

$84M global 3rd wknd

WW by Sunday will be between $ 485-505M.

There’s going to be a HBO max show called Dune: Prophecy. It’s already been filmed. I think it’s coming later this year.

Seeing this 70mm Imax was so great. Wish they would build more real Imaxs...

I have to say I was very disappointed that they did not go into

Spoiler

how Lady Jessica and Paul can now communicate with their ancestral memories, I was really hoping for a scene inside Jessica's mind where we see her talking to her mother, grandmother, etc etc.

Saw this yesterday with my friend who wanted to rewatch it and I loved it. I loved the first one but this one just has you on the edge and hooks you from minute one

I watched it again and I enjoyed it just as much. Some of the audience started cheering for Paul by the end which was kind of creepy :hoetenks:

I agree 100%. I hate hate HATE to be one of those snobs who are constantly whining "ThE bOoK iS BeTtER!!!111!1!!1!!" but the Jessica drinking the water of life scene in the book was much more detailed and graphic iirc, it's a bit sad they didn't go further with that in the movie, but I understand it's probably due to the time constraints
