Glad I'm not the only one and it also kinda scared me how at the beginning of the movie there were lots of non-believers but by the end it was JUST Chani It's supposed to make you uncomfortable, the books are (among many things) an examination of why religious cults are so dangerous. Looks like in the movies they're setting up Chani to be the voice of sanity who doesn't get caught up in the messiah narrative. Edited March 8 by MatiRod

Spoiler It's never heard of again My personal theory: after Paul turned out to be a tyrant that paid dust to the Bene Gesserit, they probably realized they couldn't control a Kwisatz Haderach and killed the baby

The ending will be iconic with Chani dying in childbirth, Paul making Duncan kill the guy trying to blackmail him with his grief, and then walks out into the desert to die while Stilgar and the rest look on, like I can already see the closing shot of Paul walking against the sunset in the desert. I'm kinda tempted to start the series They're all 'easy' in the sense that it's not James Joyce. But they do have a tendency to ramble and you need patience for long philosophical passages. Dune and Dune Messiah = fairly straightforward but don't expect Harry Potter, it's much more sophisticated than that and Frank Herbert has a tendency to condense what should be a big action moment into one paragraph and then spend 20 pages on someone's internal conversation with themselves Children of Dune = fairly straightforward but it starts to get esoteric towards the end God Emperor of Dune = this is where it gets WEIRD, I think this is the one that loses a lot of people Heretics & Chapterhouse = much more streamlined and action-packed, probably the easiest ones to read 1
BNF91 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 The shot sequence in Giedi Prime when Spoiler The close up of Feyd-Rautha revelling in his powerful new title/future, followed by Lady Fenring slinking towards him in the background, and that whole scene even before they even enter her guest room, is just 1
BNF91 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) Canada bonkers- $13.2M 1st week, equivalent to a $135M US 1st week. Projected for a $35-40M finish. Germany- 2nd weekend forecast is a mere -15% drop UK- $1.5M Thursday, $15.8M 1st week Italy- headed for 20-30% 2nd wknd dip France- projected to take in another 840,000 admissions in week 2, just -38% from week 1. She was supposed to have a daughter who would marry Feyd-Rautha, and then the child from that union would be the Kwisatz Haderach. But Jessica decided to skip that step (because Leto wanted a son). Yeah i mean that sorry. This is why the actual reverend mother hates her cause "you believe you can generare the Kwisatz". In the books the positions of Jessica is softer and seems like She made a boy cause leto needed a boy. In the movie Jessica seems like more obsessed with Power and a more Extreme character (let'see what are the plans for her in the third movie) and it's more explicit her only intent was to generate the Kwisatz even against the orders Edited March 8 by vale9001
BNF91 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 For those of you who are still planning on going to see it, please sit through the first bit of credits at least and take in this masterpiece with that theatre sound. Then get chills. 4

Spoiler idk, the end of the movie implies that Paul starts a holy war, and the GP might assume that the next movie is about this war, but it's not really (it's also really funny how Frank skipped the entire jihad in the books too). The book events are all, like you said, political games and intrigues with face dancers, guild navigators etc, and the only *action* scene is in the end and idk if it's something that people expect after seeing part 2 I think along with the things you mentioned like Alia, the stone burner scene etc, they could show more of the jihad itself, because this is something I found lacking in the book They could also show more of Jessica, she is such a good actress but Jessica is in Caladan the whole time, idk if Denis would want to get rid of her character Alia is also not that relevant in Messiah, I wonder if they would use some of her plotline from Children of Dune with her becoming more and more of an abomination, at least the beginning of it P.S I also wonder if they will be brave enough to adapt the Hitler scene Edited March 8 by illia 1
McNulty Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I'm gonna get some lashes for this but I didn't like this movie like the first one, like I agree this movie is miles better when it comes to technical achievement better cinematography, score, sound, editing....etc. It was impressive but my issue with this movie is how rushed it was during the second act Like Feyd's whole storyline felt so undeveloped, why did Feyd had beef with his brother, why did he kill his mother other than "he's crazy" and as a viewer I didn't fear him as much because he didn't anything significant except for one fight. The movie needed to be longer to develop the story better imo, I didn't get emotionally connected to any character like I did in the first movie

Lightbringer007 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Just saw the movie tonight, it was absolutely insane and it felt like REAL cinema ... idk how their gonna top it for movie #3 but I just know its gonna be absolutely bonkers 1
wesleywalrus Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I'm surprised we're not discussing the real question - is Paul Atreides really the messiah? like its easy to say no but how did Chani's tears bring him back to life? Was Lady Jessica f*cking with them?
BNF91 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 2nd weekend numbers starting to roll in This past week's fantastic numbers may have gotten expectations a bit too high, as Dune Part Two brings in a $12.3M 2nd Friday. Still extremely strong, just -39% from last week true Fri. But will not get it to the $50M+ that many began to expect after such a red hot Mon-Thurs. Intense PLF demand actually propped up the weekday numbers which leads to a smaller Fri jump. But then Saturday jump and Sunday holds should be very impressive. Weekend should be between $43-45M with an outside chance at $46-47M. No matter how you slice it, strong numbers all around. $152-156M domestic by Sunday! $300M unlikely, $250-260M seems like where it will finish.
