Early Monday estimate is strong!

$7.5M, -65% from Sun :clap3:

Better than comparable March hits Creed 3 (-71%), The Batman (-68%) and John Wick 4 (-70%)

I don't wanna jinx 2nd wknd but it's gonna be good.

Spoiler

How did we feel about Paul taking the hand of Irulan over Chani? I've never read the books, so idk if that is something new or not. I didn't see it coming :ohwow:

For what it’s worth, I really enjoy reading the box office updates you post in here.

Spoiler

It happens in the books too. It makes sense because if he never married Irulan, other houses would never accept him as a new emperor. It's just a political game, he still loves Chani

Spoiler

I didn't see it coming, I thought he was going to kill the emperor to take the throne but I guess this makes more sense. I kinda feel sorry for Irulan :rip: but it's a good political decision and as a Bene Gesserit she should be able to respect that

I only wish he would have told Chani about it before :doc: I'm not a book reader either so I hope they find their way back to each other :(

Wow, JLo goes out to the theater? I think she would have a private screening at her private home theater or something.

I thought it was extremely good, and had such deep and thought provoking themes. the cast is also amazing. my first introduction to Dune was via the first movie so had no idea where the story would go.

BUT

I will say that for me, the movie veered far too much into CGI Marvel schlock than it should have in some moments. Part One had Denis’ distinct visual style, and was felt like  elevated and mature sci-fi.

Part Two does as well, but it felt watered down and a little bit more “generic blockbuster”, as if the studio told Denis that he had to appeal to the marvel bros. Maybe it’s because the first one was more set up and this movie had more action idk, but yeah that kind of disappointed me.

still, it’s great to see a movie like this be so successful and I’m looking forward to seeing what Denis does next

I don't get your Marvel reference.

If there's one thing that defines Marvel is unrealistic CGI (not talking quality wise, yes they have been awfully ugly also lol). CGI in Dune part 1 and 2 are def hyperrealistic. One main reason only is that it is shot on location and not in a studio or with The Volume.

Some stats-

Dune Part 2 had the 8th biggest March OW of all-time

It's IMAX OW globally was the 7th biggest of all-time

8th biggest Monday in March of all-time

Kind of crazy that Dune has reached these box office heights. It's a blockbuster.

China first weekend forecasts have come out after presales continue to cruise ($2.7M with 2 days to go). Opening Friday is forecasted at $9-10M. That should set up $25M+ OW. Bigger than Part 1 (which has now become a total rarity in China with Western films, as they have largely abandoned them for domestic fare), but hopefully even more.
