Episode 4 is such a masterpiece in storytelling. It's up there with the greats :weeps: I cried my heart out that was so beautiful!

I'm kind of gagged by how much time passed on Season 3, from late summer to early spring. I thought season 3 was going to end at Christmas time. I think that was the only thing that bothered me even though the story didn't feel rushed. I guess maybe they crammed in much as possible since a 4th season isn't announced yet. I really hope a 4th season will happen. I'm not ready for this show to end.

This season was kinda mid in comparison to the previous two.

I don't know how to feel about this season so far (I've only 2 episodes left).

First of all, there's a lot of heavy drinking. It's a bit low to promote sixteen year olds having to drink heavily at every gathering like that. I expected sooooooo much better from Heartstopper. Second of all, the need to push the characters to want to be sexually active just because they're sixteen also feels a bit forced, but I guess that one is a bit debatable. And then, the way they treat topics like self-harm and eating disorders, I can't say much because I haven't experienced them but I'd be interested in what people who did think about the way these issues were portrayed.

Also I REALLY hated the Birthday celebration at the ******* Zoo. Imagine thinking Zoos are cool in 2024. Not sure if that was also part of the comics or what, but that's something that personally was a bit upsetting to me cause I care about animal rights.

However, I still get a lil' emotional and relate to the characters and I love the Heartstopper world. Despite these things it's still a very compelling show.

This is my biggest gripe too, after having finished the season. Charlie being this broken person always going through something while Nick a perfect savior willing to stick through it all just gets boring. :rip: The bisexual jock saved the gay nerd from bullying, awakened his sexuality thanks to him, came out to the world for him, and is always putting him before everyone else and himself, all while only being a teenager.

Sometimes I feel like the show is afraid of showcasing greater character flaws (when they do show them, they usually get resolved pretty quickly) in fear of any characters being branded toxic. The show is still a cute little fairytale of course, but it's important to realize that that's what it is: fantasy.

1. it's the UK, everyone's drinking when they are 16. they are obsessed with their alcohol :toofunny3: and it's very normal, if it was real life those teens would be doing coke, ecstasy and smoking joints as soon as they are off to uni

2. i don't think they are forcing anyone to be sexually active, these are hormonal teens girl, it's just realistic and another developmental topic to explore. it be weird if they weren't having sex, the show is obvs trying to normalize it, just like all the other topics it's exploring

3. i don't even wanna comment on the zoo stuff, i mean i don't entirely disagree with you about zoos but it's a fricking cheesy teen show, it's never that serious

you are a sky ferreira fan aren't you?

1. good to know. I was a bit confused because in the other seasons it was nothing like that?
2. yeah, that's why I said that point was debatable. The characters explictly say virginity is a social construct and you don't have to have it if you don't feel ready, so I guess I'm kind of fine with the way they handled the topic in the end.
3. I knew that was gonna trigger some people here but it's something I care about so I was like... "oh well" when I watched but ofc I don't expect everyone to think like I do, especially regarding topics like that. It wasn't really surprising. Just sharing my thoughts like everybody else here. I won't be silenced. Zoos ******* suck. :gaycat5:

that's because they were a bit too young lol, but as soon as you are like 16-17 in the UK you start drinking a lot, get your drivers license and start having sex. it's all very normal.

no one's silencing you sister, it's just a weird standard and expectation to have for a show like this about zoos... and you know there are actual zoos that are not just for people's entertainment but for conservation and other benefits to animals, but it's not the time and place for that discussion. :bird:

Where I'm from and in my generation it wasn't like that at all and I was unaware of that cultural aspect of the UK, I thought only Americans were that rushed into everything. So this is good to know.:dies: Anyway, I think it's sad the way alcohol consumption is so normalized and sponsored even on streaming services like Spotify... I have strong opinions on that too because of personal experiences so I'm a bit biased.

I wonder how the next season will be considering Nick is about to go to Uni. I didn't read the latest comics so I'm not sure if this season already covered everything.

This season felt like a sex ed & mental health commercial. I still loved it but wish they would go deeper with some of the topics that are being addressed. It all feels very surface level. It's like they wanted to check off every box with this one as far lgbt youth struggles goes. I don't know how to feel about this season tbh. It is a kids show after all I suppose.

Decent season. Funny that it really spanned a whole school year. The sex stuff was overhyped, as was Bailey's appearance.

Lovely portrayal of Charlie's condition, lots of care went into that.

i feel u especially the bolded bits. perhaps i wont tune in for the next one. S1 was so adorable but the novelty of it has kinda worn off and I'm really not that invested in the characters.

ik its supposed to be short and snappy but the story arcs for problem -> drama -> resolution seemed so rushed for everyone (except the ED stuff).

nick talking to his auntie (?) about charlies problems was really a highlight tho.

another 10/10 season for me, I truly love this show :heart2:

I think they handled Charlie's struggles beautifully. I cried a lot during this season for that reason and I found it scary how much his experiences almost mirrored mine at that age (the fact that I have the same name made it feel more personal LOL). There's just so much heart in this show that you don't find in many nowadays, so hopefully a S4 is going to happen.

I just finished the the season and though I really liked it, it started to feel a bit underwhelming towards the last episodes and the last episodes to be end of the season felt hella flat :rip:

Anyway, hope there's 4th season because even if I didn't like this season that much, there were many scenes were I was smiling like an idiot :rip:

What an embarrassing mess :rip:No story progression other than them losing their virginity? No character development with the side characters as well. Wish they would've delved more into Tao and Tara. Who cares if they diverge from the comics. Also, the way they tried to include as many topics as possible made the season feel bloated. They went from discussing asexuality to eating disorders in the span of five minutes, like, okay? I just can't deal with all of this pastiche. It's just not realistic and the way this is marketed as "good queer representation in media" is not it. Imagine 14-15 year olds watching this and thinking the world works like that ijbol. And don't get me started on the s-word scenes :ahh: The scene of Nick buying condoms and lube (the subtle Durex ad), like, come on.

If you want to actually watch a good Netflix show about eating disorders and where teens are actually being teens, go watch Everything Now.

Netflix lowkey should've adapted Alice Osman's Loveless for an original Netflix series. Now that would've been a hit.

Ep 2:

Spoiler

Heavy stuff this episode but all the cast are doing a good job acting wise. Joe and Kit are absolute standouts particularly in both of there big moments of the episode. Time to be controversial but I don't think Hayley Atwell delivered at all in terms of that beautiful monologue, I'm actually gutted we didn't get to see Olivia Coleman say it because I genuinely think she lets down such a stellar moment. Joe's acting when he's on the phone oh WOW! I completely understand Tao&Elles storyline so far but I'm just not invested in it for some reason, low-key hate the obnoxious relationship couple in a friend group too so…Not the absolute icon Annette Badland being Taras grandma omg, not her playing yet another grandma to a queer grandchild (big boys watchers I'm looking at you). I think Tori and Isaac having more to do so far has been lovely to see and it's genuinely brilliant that we are having Charlie x Isaac scenes this season! Sort of makes me sad we didn't get more earlier because they both bounce of each other really well and Tobie does a good job at the more serious moments (though I found the editing of that scene very weird tbh). Cute moment with the teachers but again not enough.

[okay so after thinking about this episode more I think I'm actually pretty frustrated with it, I really don't understand them trying to frame Charlie's mum as a problem/rude like maybe it's just me but I feel like she's just being a typical parent. Why is there no personal development of Tara as a character? How are we 3 seasons in and it still feels like we don't know how to balance an ensemble cast properly? Another big thing is I feel like we ended season 2 on the pretty devastating reveal that Charlie was self harming previously yet it doesn't feel like a priority AT ALL in terms of what's going on.]

Is this good? It's not in the top 10 for Netflix USA anymore :dancehall3:

I loved the way this season explored some darker themes and enjoyed all the topics they addressed. I am not sure where I would rank it as compared to the other seasons. I think the actors have gotten much more comfortable this season. I liked how some characters like Isaac whose only personality was reading a book got fleshed out. (he was bad in season 2)

And Charlie's sister Tori was great this season, the actress is great at portraying her concern for Charlie.

I think the first couple of episodes were the strongest, especially episode 4, which clearly everyone seems to like.

My main problem was they had so many potential storylines but had only 8 episodes to cover them. So a lot of potential conversations and scenes that could have been included in the show were just brushed aside or very quickly resolved. It felt like we just often saw the start and end of the conflict. For example: Imogen's plot with Sahar - exploring comp het was not a bad choice but they could have done more with the plot. Sahar's character felt like she was just around so that Imogen had something to do this season and was just there most of the time. We needed to see more of Tori and Michael instead of everything happening in the background.

Also it's probably just the nature of the show but a lot of the dialogue, especially surrounding mental illness, felt very sanitized and therapy-speak. The self-harm aspects felt almost tacked on because they tried to gloss over it for fear of making the show too serious. And the characters felt like they were reading from a self help book at times instead of more realistic dialogue.

Olivia Coleman as Nick's mother Sarah was definitely missed. I know that beach scene was meant for her but they had to introduce the aunt due to the scheduling conflicts. TBH at least that scene could be explained since it was just a holiday trip. Her absence was more felt in other episodes of the show, it was almost like Nick had no supervision and was living alone at times. She was one of the closest people to Nick apart from Charlie and someone he leaned on, and suddenly she was not around.

Still, despite all this, I did enjoy this season, and I hope this show gets renewed for a final season.
