He’s just a young boy. He plays drums. He’s “especially” good at math (which is unfortunately seen as a subject for boys). He’s a fast runner. And he was willing to join the Rugby team. He likes horror movies and doesn’t get scared by them. He doesn’t have interest in musicals. He’s not that notably fashionable. He has curly, unkempt hair that isn’t notably styled. Etc. He just seems like a standard teenage boy. Not super feminine, not super masculine. Well, we can agree to disagree but just like Disclosure the documentary on trans women shows the stereotypes used in hollywood. Charlie is the weird gay trope but i like that the show twisted him into they too can play sports. A masc gay guy is important as they are the ones even to this day facing struggles in mainstream hollywood. Agents and holoywood execs always force such men to either come out as bi but not gay. Many have stated the same constantly. Hollywood cant handle a Henry Cavill type of gay. I do think, since the writer has been given artistic freedom by netflix to rewrite the characters from the book and they wont be similar to the book from now heceforth. Its possible that type of character will be introduced later. Id love for also a trans male chatacter. Edited May 23, 2022 by L.B GAGA
1DES Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Is there any significant the birds represent on the end of episode 5.
luanziie Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 (edited) Since they created Imogen who doesn't exist in the comics, they can create some content for Ben in season 2 and 3. They better because I need to see this guy in the next seasons. Edited May 23, 2022 by luanziie

Harry (the bully) has more in the comics coming up that I'm like 95% sure they will adapt and give to Ben because they like the actor better (I wouldn't be mad) would love for Tao to get a haircut in the next season, William Gao is truly the hottest member of the cast

Apparently his hair is that (awful) style because Tao was protesting the school’s hair length policy to stand in solidarity with her when she was at Truham. So it would be cute if she gave him a hair cut.
mystery Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I think we will definitely see Alice expanding and adding new storylines for the upcoming seasons like she did for the first one.

fais_2311 Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 This narrative that Charlie is a fem Just because he’s shy, quiet, polite and bullied doesn’t mean he’s a fem. And we never saw his fem side from the show. Even if he’s really a fem gay, so what? And why some ppl were so obsessed with this masc/fem thing and had this ideology that if you are not masc enough then you’re fem. I’m muting that user. I really love how positive and full of love this thread before so I refused to let someone ruin that for me with this masc/fem thing
blaggot Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I couldn’t wait for my books to all be delivered so I read all the comics online over the weekend and whew so much source material for them to work with for the next 2 seasons

It'll give Kit some pretty good moments of drama to work through as an actor. I'm curious to see how they adapt those tense moments.

Almodusa Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Has there been an info as to this being submitted for the Primetime Emmys or being saved for the Children’s & Family Emmys instead?
Pink Ranger Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Why are people trying to paint these characters/actors as “Masc” or “fem”? And why does that even matter? y’all are your worst enemies in the LGBTQIA+ community honestly, who gives a flying phuck, just enjoy the damn show.

Most likely in the Daytime Emmys. They tone down the language from the comics for it to have a broader audience.

Not eligible there anymore I believe since they split children/family programming to have its own new ceremony later this year. And if it was Daytime they’d have to wait until next year since noms are already out for that.
X~MoviePoP Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Only emmy chance this show has is for editing, animation or guest actress for olivia Coleman. I think this show would have a better chance at European awards such as BAFTA

The only thing she really served was in that last ep but I guess Margo Martindale did win for sipping coffee on The Americans one year.
Gui Blackout Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Yeah I don't think this made enough impact in the US to be noticed by the Emmys. I think it will get some love at the BAFTAs tho.

kgeezy310 Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 olivia actually isnt eligible for guest actress. even tho she's barely in the episodes she's in, she physically appears on screen in 6 of the 8 episodes and for Guest Actress they changed the rules a few years ago to where you can't even appear for a second in more than 50% of the episodes.
