ConceptD Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 The latest episode was crazy. I really hope they start tying some stuff up though I hate when shows hint and tease at things and then don’t get a chance to offer a conclusion.
eclipsed Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 I'm not enjoying this as much as season 1. It's not really going anywhere. It almost feels like a network tv show but they are allowed to swear, show nudity and have cannibalism. Even the locations now don't look real. It looks greenscreened and done on a sound stage. I'll continue in the hopes that it gets better, I liked quite a bit of season 1 but right now it feels like they are just stringing the audience along with just enough to get to the next episode and I feel this kind of storytelling feels dated and full of cliche tropes.

I do hope they have a tight 5 season plan and are able to execute it. so far they keep adding without resolving and resolving needs to start soon so it doesn't get too much. the bolded part: you're right, it was shot on location before but since the snow its a soundstage and you can tell.

Yeah when you put it like that I can appreciate it a little more and see the appeal. Shows like this are definitely a dying breed. I've become so accustomed to everything being like 6 episodes and tv in general choosing quality over quantity and everything not feeling as contrived nowadays I guess. Older shows that ran for many seasons definitely had their fair share of filler episodes and yeah I can see this being similar with the way they are choosing to tell the story, them opening up new threads before resolving what they've already opened up. It feels like they want the series to run for quite a few seasons but I don't know if there is enough content here to justify them dragging it so much but we'll see, hopefully it picks up.
Valgorie Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 This show reminds me so much of Pretty Little Liars, in a good way, so I definitely see why people get 2010s network show from it. I read that they don't have a thorough plan for the show beyond the season being currently working on. I immediately clocked the random new characters but it's so entertaining and intriguing. I hadn't binged something in so long. Spoiler They did my girl Jackie so dirty
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 I think I wanna drop this show and binge it once airing completes. I hate that gap between seasons I always lose interest

Damn’ i was wondering why tf i wasn’t recognising characters
Uncatena Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 the present day storyline is boring and pointless, they need to do something asap or this is going to fall off completely.
skankle Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 I kinda get the filler complaints but I'm still really enjoying this season, only the first episode really suffered from spinning too many plates imo. Some stuff has been dragged out more than it needed to be - adult Tai meeting up with Van, Nat and the cult girl, whatever Shauna's daughter is doing. While I appreciate adult Lottie having some depth to her and not being an out-and-out villain her whole cult thing has been underwhelming so far, but at least it's picking up with her going back to blood offerings. Also yeah, it looks cheaper than season 1, even in the editing, which is weird. Also can't decide if I like Mari being a one-dimensional mega ***** in contrast to every other character or whether she's incongruent.

Started season one last week and watched the newest episode last night and then it hit me that I couldn’t remember some of the random new faces. I kinda hate how they did that, makes no sense tbh but oh well.
Blue. Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Shauna is insufferable both in the present and the past but the present one I DESPISE, the actress is so cringey and by far the worst one and that’s something when you are up against female modern day Jack sparrow.

theblondesalad Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Yeah the present day storyline is a little bit slow and stale, especially Tai part! I don't remember but they haven't reveal that Van was alive, right?

I think when they did the brief clips of the girls getting on a plane post-rescue that you could see Van walking behind Tai with half her face covered. It was in the same sequence they showed Lottie getting electroshock therapy maybe? Anyway, this show is still interesting but the present-day storylines are all a bit stagnant and need to pick up the pace or start coming together soon.
theblondesalad Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Ooh you're both right! It was in the first episode of the new season, thank you!

I normally notice this in long running shows but it usually happens in their later seasons. The massive cast probably eats up a big chunk of the budget. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the main actresses from the present day storyline is killed off by the end of the season, I could see them killing off Juliette Lewis' character.

If they are killing someone it should be Shawna. Her storyline is ****** up and there is no way she can get away with it. It would be the most unrealistic thing on the show and there is literally an antlers wearing wood spirit or whatever in it.
ctlp27 Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) Everything is boring this season, past and present. It’s too slow and going nowhere. It had potential but I refused to believe there is a 5 seasons plan when it feels they already are dragging everything so much in anyway possible. Frodo and Misty is so uninteresting looking for Juliette. Juliette Lewis is so underused it’s criminal. Lottie’s character is the most unlikeable and dull past and present, and we spent so much time on her. The whole Messiah thing with the two students we never saw before is annoying. Finally not talking about Shauna’s kid who feels entitled to know her mom secrets. Seem that type of storyline before so it’s both lazy and doomed to fail. at this rate, I will stopped after the finale. Edited April 22, 2023 by ctlp27
ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted May 7, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 7, 2023 I miss Jackie tbh. She was messy, but I loved her The show is still enjoyable, but I don't feel as though 2 has reached the heights of season 1 yet
Uncatena Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Sophie Nélisse ******* NAILED IT last episode, her performance was heartbreaking.
DoctorIce Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Why the hell have they ruined continuity by adding new characters? The blonde chick in the baseball cap who hasn't even had any lines... why?
eclipsed Posted May 8, 2023 Posted May 8, 2023 Always love Lauren Ambrose and shes exceptional here as well. I'm honestly surprised by all the Emmy talk for younger Shauna. Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching the same show bc the acting from the younger cast is only slightly better than what I would expect from a show like Pretty Little Liars
