They literally grossed $3 billion last year. :rip:

They had 3 (expensive) entries last year alone :rip: Unlike only one for Jurassic, Top Gun and Avatar

That's nice, they still grossed $3 billion last year alone. So why are you pretending they're some flop franchise now, when it's quite obviously not true. :toofunny3:

Nobody mentioned the word "flop" no need to get defensive :celestial5:

Anyways back on topic, it's a kii seeing A2 outgrossing No Way Home in some markets already, like Europe where the first Avatar held and kept all-time records to this day :lakitu:

But you certainly did infer it. :celestial5:

I was talking about that member's comment about the MCU "changing the entertainment landscape" since they declined as a result of their formula of quantity over quality, which is a general consensus even among MCU stans and their impact includes the DCEU which flopped anyway so is their impact really all that? That's what I was inferring :lakitu:

Meanwhile everyone dragged Cameron for making "impactless" Avatar sequels but now, A2 is a global event that will outgross every MCU movie except Endgame :celestial5:

To be really honest I wish we could just remove or ignore China grosses from every blockbuster (past, present and future ones) from now on. Or keep them in a separate chart

It feels unnecessary (if not uncomfortable) atp and it'd be more interesting to see an even playing field from now on without having to add or subtract stuff for more accurate comparisons

@Bloodflowers. crossed 1m in Croatia, will finish above Top Gun: Maverick as the #1 film of the decade.

Never seen a bigger cope than Avatar haters rn :bibliahh:

"no cultural impact" yet it's living rent free in their heads

considering how well this is doing and the fact that it's coming out in 2 years (instead of 13), I think A3 will have a great opening (especially in the US, compared to A2)

Most people may not be chomping at the bits to see it but it’s something to do for families, couples, friends etc over the holidays since the IP is huge and people expect to see cool visuals at the least. And any other people who thought about seeing it will go passively through Jan since there’s nothing else out either, another contributor for great legs.

I feel it’s not a cultural phenomena but it’s something to do for the masses and clearly a good chunk are buying

France with its biggest weekend yet. Just mind-blowing. Will crash $100M there tomorrow. China +38% from last wknd. $163M total. Another $100M to be made there. Already the 5th highest grossing film of all-time in the Czech Republic, as well as Hungary. Top 3 of all-time locked in Germany :duca:

We had a whole conversation about the movie at a New Years party.

Things mentioned by people:

Long wait since the first movie

Great visuals + felt like it wasn't cgi but a real movie

Sigourney weaver breaking record for holding breath under water

There was one guy who was like "There's a new Avatar movie out?" and everyone was literally like "Do you live under a rock?" but he then said yes because he has a new infant :rip:

Idk I hear it talked about constantly so I'm not sure where the lack of cultural aspect is coming from :skull:

Monday domestic jumping up from $19.5M to $21-22M :duca: jesus it's just endless increases with this film.

#3 of all-time for most days at or above $20M domestic (11 days):clap3:

Pretty sure that was Kate Winslet.

OT: Just back from seeing this and I absolutely loved it. I thought it was visually stunning and found the story compelling. It was however far too long. Completely unnecessary.

I also absolutely hated the whale torture scene. It was making me so sad/mad and it was going on for too long.

I enjoyed it more than my friend that I went with though. :toofunny3: It's been a very long time since I've seen the original, so I don't know how they compare but I would definitely watch this again - at home.

Just saw it in 3D, what a cinematic experience :jonny4:i don’t think I’d enjoy it nearly as much at home or in 2D. Jim Cameron did it again! I’m curious how they’re gonna make three more films as entertaining

What are y’all’s thoughts on Kate Winslet as Ronal? She is said to have a bigger role in Avatar 3. I think she was also important here and served as the conscience of film. Also the scene where she breaks down when <spoiler>… :clap3: love it

:clap3: A TRUE event. Marvel could never.

Kate was forgettable tbh. Sigourney Weaver is the true star of the Avatar franchise.

It only took 20 movies of buildup too, and still couldn’t top “no cultural impact” Avatar.

Anyway, how much are we thinking this will end up? I’m going with 2.5B.
