Zerocoke Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 $24M Sunday, so $66.4M 3rd Weekend DOM (+4/5% compared to last week). While last weekend was definitely impacted by the storm, this is still an incredible result and the third biggest 3rd weekend ever. Hopefully it manages to stay afloat next weekend and pull off +$40M.
Sharapov Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 not people being surprised when there are no other big movies out, the promo is extreme and it has like 70% of the screens

vale9001 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 with inflation and 3d prices it's not gonna sell so many more tickets than Iron Man3. It's not that great for the sequel of the biggest movie of all time. I would say it's gonna lose 40-50% of tickets from the first movie. They're good films to watch with the family on the holiday but still a so-so non very relevant saga. Everything about is so trite. I hate MCU but that's is a relly relevant saga who is changing the face of movie entertainemnt for the contents, narrativem the fruition of movies and everything. This year alone top gun felt a way bigger event.
mystery Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 The amount of reaching and fuming needed to try and come for a movie that will cross 2b.

Ticket sales are not tracked WW and they’re difficult to estimate considering 3D, inflation, and different exchange rates across the board Jatinder estimates around 250M tickets for TWOW (vs. 313M for Avatar) if it reaches 2B, surpassing No Way Home. Would rank 4th in tickets sold (of the 2000s) only behind Endgame, Avatar and Infinity War. Considering the current macroeconomic conditions, Covid in China, no Russia, the streaming wars and the fact that this is not a nostalgia driven or +20 movie build up finale to a huge cinematic saga, this is absolutely incredible. (Also, Top Gun would be at around 150M tickets sold so, yeah) Edited January 2, 2023 by Zerocoke

Dialamba Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Either way Disney is winning. However I remember people were saying avatars had no impact and would tank.

Donquizote Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Watched this for third time last night with my friends. Yes, I still cried at the ending. The second installment really has soul compared to the first one.

That's enough to pay for this movie AND the 3rd entry already, which will be profits only. There's also no way of telling which movie is a bigger event for now...this one or Top Gun. What we can state as a FACT is that Top Gun will be surpassed over the next few days...and by a movie that was on cinemas for like 3 weeks only.
manwhore Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Won't break even! still not at 2 billion? ouch! Titanic 2: multiverse storyline now to save face Cammy.
BNF91 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 The fumes lmaooo. B-but inflation, b-but too much promo! B-but no competition! Didn't feel like an event!

BNF91 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) Anyways... OS weekend increasing to $190M! Bonkers 3rd weekend, next weekend should still be huge (another $100-120M+). At $960M+ with holiday Monday still to record, which should bring it past $1B OS today. $1.5B OS is looking good right now. Domestic rises, leaps past Black Panther's 3rd weekend. Sunday ended up being the best 3rd Sunday of all-time domestically! Monday will be nice again as it is holiday, another $20M+. So 4-day of $87-88M, and $445M+ domestic after today. $630-650M domestic looking good right now. $2-2.25B is the new game! Leaving NWH and TFA in the rear view mirror. And like sis @Zerocokesaid, this will be the 4th biggest admissions of the 21st century with 250M+ tickets sold. Most certainly, an event. Edited January 2, 2023 by BNF91

Avatar is the most global franchise, possibly ever. Every continent gets in on the action.
BNF91 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Avatar 2 will F-35 zoom by Top Gun Maverick's lifetime gross (including re-releases) after just 20 days in release. While still making $35-50M daily and a $150M+ 4th weekend globally on the way. They are not in the same realm, same level, same league, nothing.
BNF91 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 @Bloodflowers.China 3rd Monday bigger than debut Monday.. $9.2M. It's cruising now, almost like it was re-released this past weekend. $163M total so far there.

Some people i know literally never went to theater was seated for this release and everyone was like "Have you seen the new Avatar movie?" to start off conversation in the past 3 weeks lol.

And what happened to the DCEU who best represented the MCU's "impact"? Avatar doesn't need a 20 movie build up or a reunion of decades old characters/actors like Harrison Ford or Tobey Maguire
